Anniston Star May 26, 1958
One of Randolph County's largest rural general merchandise stores, Iverson 
Lovvorn and Company at Newell, was broken into Saturday night, along with, the 
adjacent post office, and some $375 to $400 in money and merchandise was taken, 
Sheriff Ralph Gunn reported. The store was entered through a rear window, from 
which a bar was broken out, and safes in the store and in the post office were 
battered open with a sledgehammer, the sheriff said. Some $50 in silver was 
taken from the store safe and about the same amount of silver from the 
repository in the post office. U. S. postal inspectors and state investigators 
are assisting in the case. Merchandise taken included cigarettes and meat. 
Sheriff Gunn said there appeared to be about three persons involved in the 
entry. No arrest had been made, this morning. The store is owned and operated by 
Handley Lovvorn.
