Lineville Headlight March 8, 1912
On February 29, Mrs. Mary Cofield celebrated the eighty-fourth anniversary of 
her birth of her life at the home of her son of J. H. Cofield, near Christiana 
church, about ten miles east of Lineville. Mrs. Cofield cannot like nearly 
everyone else, have a birthday party every year, for it so happens February has 
twenty-nine days only every leap year. This birthday party took the form of a 
reunion, all which as ambled the nineteen children, and in all two hundred and 
fifty relatives. including children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. One 
hundred were unable to attend. There were at least one hundred and thirty guests 
besides the relatives. Before dinner, speeches were made by men who had known 
Mrs. Cofield for many years. These speeches were reminiscences principally, 
bringing to Mrs. Cofield 's eyes tears and laughter. Among the speakers were 
Revs. Tom Lindley, B. W. Mathews and Jas. McDaniel. At the noon hour dinner was 
served on a table about three hundred feet long on the lawn in front of the 
home. The table fairly groaned with the bountiful supply of good things to eat. 
After dinner, other speeches were made by Rev. Bud Knight and Mr. B. C. Bynum, 
Among the visiting guests were Mr. Sam Cofield and Mrs. Beckie Lyles and son, of 
North Alabama. Messrs. B. C. Bynum, B. W. Mathews and J. D. Fuller were among 
the participants from Lineville at this unique affair.
