Nat Shelnutt, departed this life on March 30th, and was buried at Haywood the next day in the presence of a large concourse of relatives, friends and neighbors. Sister Nan was the mother of six girls and two sons, all of whom, with their families, attended her bedside when the end came of the remarkable career of this good woman. I have been a near neighbor of Sister Shelnutt for upward of forty years and fearlessly pronounce her to be one of the meekest and most God fearing women that I ever knew. Never did her tongue vilify or speak harshly of anyone. Up to two years or so ago, when stricken by ill health, she was a regular and devoted attendant on all church services. This good sister's home was the general mecca of all visiting brethren and sisters during a revival or protracted meetings and no one was more hospitable and better pleased with these visits than was this model christian lady. Her home discipline among her children was absolutely by kindness. Besides her eight children, all of whom were members of the Church of Christ and useful citizens, there were twenty-seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren to mourn over their great loss. Sister Nan was the first one of this numerous family to pass onto the Great Beyond, after living in perfect peace and harmony with her husband for fifty- four years. The church at Haywood mingles its tears with this bereaved family. Written by G.O. Hill, Wedowee, Ala., April 6, 1926. ----- LOCAL News J.F.
