The dead are H.W. Connor of Anniston, W.T. Patterson of Pell City and P.C. Cunningham, a negro, of Anniston. The fourth victim, Leon Ogden of Goodwater, was rushed to the Knight Sanitorium here and is considered to be out of danger at this writing. Sunday morning the bodies of Conner and Cunningham were sent to Anniston and that of Patterson to Pell City. An Alabama Power Co. crew was engaged in constructing a 44,000 volt line along the way now used by a 110,00 volt line. Patterson and Cunningham were engaged in replacing a pole on this line, Patterson being on the pole and Cunningham on the ground. The pole gave way, bringing the 110,000 volt charge wire across the uncharged lighter line and going on to the ground. Patterson came into contact with the wire and was killed instantly. Cunningham seems to have tried to escape by running but ran into a barbed wire fence which had been charged from the ground and he was also killed. A team of horses nearby were also killed by the charged ground. Conner and Ogden were more than half a mile away from the place where Patterson and Cunningham met their deaths. They were up a pole working with the dead 44,000 volt line. This line became charged from contact with the heavy line and Connor was killed. Ogden was only partly up the pole and was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground. The unfortunate victims of this terrible tragedy had been in Roanoke but a short whiile, working out here in the construction of the new line. They were known to but few of our people, but their distressed families and friends have the sympathy of all. ---- FORRESTER'S CHAPEL News July 9th Mrs. M.E. Hester was called by the Great All Father from mortality to immortality. She died as she had lived, a devoted christian wife and mother. To the broken hearts of her suffering family we would say, take to yourself the great controlling power of the christ that she loved. "Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep, from which none ever wake to weep." To the bereaved husband and children we would say, is it not better that she sleep in Paradise instead of languishing on a bed of pain? In all the various relations of life that she filled as wife, mother, friend and neighbor, the even tenor of her noble life was far beyond reproach. Gentle, kind, modest, with silent devotion she practiced christian benevolence. She went when she was needed and ministered to the suffering. She loved her neighbors and saw that they knew her love by her kind, sympathetic deeds. The many friends of this christian lady remembered her with an abundance of flowers. It was most appropriate that the close of this life should be accentuated with flowers. As the beautiful book of her life is closed, remembrance of a thousand deeds of kindness that she did stand out like dazzling jewels on a lovely robe. Her best monument will be the kindness which accentuated all her earthly pilgrimage. The funeral service was held at the First Baptist church of which she was a member, on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock by her pastor Rev. W.E. Lockler who paid her a worthy tribute.
