Walden is prepared to feed the people and the hungry crowds are finding this to be true. __ W.I. Pate has returned from Texas for a visit. He has been gone five years. __ Brents Taylor has returned from Texas to High Shoals and will try another year in Alabama. __ The oldest son of Mr. George Riser at Milltown died last Sunday. Rev. W.J.D. Upshaw conducted the funeral services. __ Mr. Shirley Owen returned to Union Springs on Monday after spending a few days pleasantly with his mother and many friends here. __ M.W. Hardy of Columbus spent a few days with his home folks here last week. "Boss" has developed into a handsome young man and his friends are gratified at the success with which he is meeting. __ The first prisoner landed in the new city prison was Jim McKinley, colored, who was brought here Saturday by the sheriff and lodged over night to be carried to the penitentiary. So the marshall's new hotel will be known as the "McKinley House." __ Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Goodwin have as their guests Prof. Logan and wife and Miss Maggie Swindall. Mrs. Logan will be pleasantly remembered by friends here as Miss May Swindall who was married only a few days ago. __ The mother of the Scheussler brothers is very low at LaFayette. __ On Christmas night, Bud, the 16 year old son of Deputy Sheriff Kent, while stopping by at a negro frolic near Malone's Ferry, this county, got into a quarrel with a negro named Anthony Hill and the latter shot the boy just below the heart, so that he died Tuesday. The negro has not been captured. We regret this sad tragedy very much and extend sympathy to the distressed family of the deceased. ___ LEGAL NOTICE OF EXECUTOR'S SALE Under and by virtue of the power of sale contained in the Last Will and Testament of Alsey Stephens, deceased, which has been duly proven and probated in the Probate Court of Randolph County, Alabama, we the undersigned, Stephen Stephens and Andrew Stephens, as the executors of said last will and testament, will within the legal hours of sale on Saturday the 2nd day of Jan. 1897, on the homestead occupied by the late Alsey Stephens, sell for cash to the highest bidder at public auction the entire real estate described therein. The machinery and mills of the late Alsey Stephens are situated on the said described lands. All the above lands are productive, well situated for farming purposes and convenient to churches and good schools.
