SAMUEL FAUSETT At 4:30 o'clock, a.m. on Jan. 23, 1897, death claimed as a victim one of our most prominent and useful citizens, Samuel Fausett. He left a clean record, having been a citizen of Roanoke and community for a half century. During this long and eventful period he fully established himself in the confidence of all who knew him. A good neighbor, a true friend, a conscientious Baptist, a godly christian has been called from our midst to a higher and better life, where disappointments are not known and sorrows never come. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, guiding with discretion his large family of children, thus making them a blessing in the world. Most of them are still living. His children are quite notable for their morality and piety. Bro. Fausett was made a deacon of Roanoke church in 1873, which office he faithfully filled. He loved his church above all other interests, always prompt in attendance and liberal in its support. He has been a member of the board of trustees of Roanoke Normal College since 1875. He was faithful to all the public trusts imposed upon him. Bro. Fausett was born in Columbia County, Georgia Nov. 15, 1818, moved to Alabama in 1845, joined the Baptist church at Bethel, Chambers County in 1846, baptized by Rev. Daniel McCoy. He was married first to Miss Harriet Arnett in 1843, who died in 1860. To them was born eight children, four sons, Jesse, George, Thomas and John, and also four daughters, Mary J., Martha H., Cornelia and Frances L., two of whom have died, Cornelia and Mary. He was married the second time to Miss Martha Mulloy in 1862 and to them were born five children, Nathan S., Robert L., Sarah M., Emma L. and Ella A., one of whom preceeded her father to the grave, Sarah M. There are many neighbors and friends, together with ten children and a broken hearted widow who mourn his death.
