Ward. __ Mrs. Harrison Whitaker is quite sick at present. We hope to soon be able to note her recovery. __ Mrs. Frances Peden is also in the sick list. __ PEAVY News Mr. Waterhouse and family, who have been visiting Mr. John Danielly will take their leave in the morning for home. __ Mr. Will George and family are visiting his father, expecting the death of his mother. __ Mr. T.L. Reeves and wife visited their daughter Mrs. Arrie George last Saturday. __ At the Radney bridge yesterday Rev. J.D. Elder baptized 19 persons, among whom were Uncle Frank and Aunt Martha Gay. __ LOCAL News Mrs. Barto Harper has been quite ill for several days past. __ Mrs. Lane, mother of Mrs. B.C. Jones, has returned from a visit to Georgia accompanied by Mr. Gus Lane. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, August 18, 1897 WELSH News Mrs. Tom Ayres and children of Glee, Ga are visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Brady. __ Miss Arrie Cook and Wilay Cook attended the marriage of Mr. Lem Redmond and Miss Maggie Cook at Five Points last Wednesday. __ WEHADKEE News Mr. J.F. Burson, wife and baby are visiting relatives in this community. __ Mr. W.O. Pearce of Roopville, Ga visited relatives in this community Sunday. __ Miss Maggie, daughter of Mr. J.P. Bartlett, and Mr. Boss Mayfield eloped to Franklin last Monday and were happily married. __ LOCAL News Mr. Sam Turner died at Rock Mills yesterday. __ Elisha Berry, the negro shot by Henry Wright, died last Thursday night. __ Mrs. W.A. Parrish and children of Gadsden are visiting relatives in this place. __ Squire Marshall, an old citizen of this county, died at the home of his son near Louina last Wednesday. __ Mrs. J.W. Tucker has gone to Goodwater to spend some time with her sons. __ Mrs. H.G. Ruggles and children have been on a visit to relatives at Harrisonville, Ga the past week. __ Mr. A.J. Noles has made arrangements to take charge of the Cumbee Hotel in LaFayette on the first of October. He and his interesting family will be missed in Roanoke. __ The venerable widow of old Uncle Tommie Weathers had the misfortune to fall in a dizzy spell last Saturday and received severe injuries. It is hoped that she may safely recover, though she is quite feeble. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, August 25, 1897 ROCK MILLS News Mrs. Nannie Phillips and daughter of LaGrange are visiting relatives here. __ LOCAL News Mr. J. Fletcher Jordan is right sick at his home near town. __ The friends of Asa Noel are extending sympathy to him on account of the marriage of his best girl to another fellow. __ Miss Alice Wood was married to Mr. Laz. Pritchett at the home of the bride's father John William Wood at Paran, Ga., last Sunday. __ Mollie Foster, a well known colored woman, died Sunday of consumption. Dr. Floyd who attended her says mulattoes are easy victims to consumption while negroes are rarely ever attacked by that dread disease. __ Business was rushed through at Wedowee court last week. A number of cases were disposed of. W.I. Daniel, who was involved in the killing of one Rodgers, was acquitted. Lem Clifton, who with his brother Isaac was charged with killing an old woman, was acquitted. His brother was convicted on the same chargeand is now serving a life sentence in the penitentiary. Such is the difference in juries. __ Old Grandma Weather is very low and not expected to live many days. __ Three white prisoners sawed through the bars at the windows on the jail and escaped.
