Arnett which occurred at Robinson Springs in Elmore County on January 1st. Mr. Arnett was working in what is known as a chalk pit when without a single note of warning the tons of dirt above his head gave way and thus his life ended, while still in his early manhood. Mr. Arnett was a native of Randolph county and was born Feb. 2, 1868. He joined the Baptist church at Roanoke in 1888 and was baptized by Dr. J.P. Shaffer. He was raised near Roanoke which was his home until about five years ago when he went to Columbus, Georgia. In November 1894 he married Miss Camelia Valentine of Clayton, Barbour County. While we know from the life he lived that he is better off now than he was a few days ago, still it makes us sad to think that one more of our friends is gone from us, sadder still to think of the manner he died, yet "the lord giveth and the lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the lord." On the day of his death he kissed his wife and told her goodbye as he left her to go to work at noon and what was the sorrow of that loving companion when in less then three hours he was killed. How sad to think that she could no more see his manly form. What sadness in the families of his brothers and sisters that the youngest is gone, that brother John is dead. What a shock to the aged father in Texas. What a gloom was cast over our community by the news of his death, for all loved him. We do not believe that the death of anyone that has ever lived in our community caused any more sadness than this. May god's blessings comfort the bereaved ones. May all so live that when this life is ended there will be no parting. A friend ___ LOCAL News Mr. Wade Branchard, a wealthy citizen of Atlanta is spending some time here with his nephew R.G.
