Mr. J.M. Yates had left Monday to look after him, knowing that he was ill with consumption. The deceased was a citizen of this county and his premature demise is sad indeed. __ Miss Edna Farrar has returned from Florida on a visit to relatives at Rock Mills. __ Coffins were sold here Monday for the wife of B.M. Langley and for the child of J.M. Houze. __ KILLED BY HIS SON As sad as it is, we are compelled to report the tragedy in Wedowee, on Sunday afternoon last. Mr. Rol. Hand, a well known citizen, make an attack on his son Bunyan, threatening to shoot him with a rifle. Young Hand fired on his father with a pistol, the ball passing through the body under the heart. The wounded man died some hours later, but exonerated his son from all blame in the matter. Bunyan gave himself up to the sheriff. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, May 18, 1898 LOCAL News On last Sunday at the Methodist church at Almond, Mr. Willie Seymour was married to Miss Eldora McGill. __ Mr. E.M. Ruggles and sister of Shelbyville, Tenn., are in Roanoke at the bedside of their mother who is very sick at the home of her son, Mr. H.G. Ruggles. __ Mr. W.J. Taylor of Carrollton, Ga., has been spending several days with relatives and friends in Roanoke and vicinity. This town is Mr. Taylor's old home, he having been in business here several years ago and his old friends are always glad to see him. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, May 25, 1898 ROCK MILLS News Mrs. J.W. Stallings and daughter of LaFayette visited relatives in this place on Sunday. __ Re. C.J. Burden of LaFayette preached the funeral of his mother Mrs. R.J. Breed at the Baptist church on Sunday. A large number of people attended the service. __ Mr. James Walker Sr. left this morning for an extended visit to relatives at Island Home, Ala. __ Mr. William Phillips and family of LaGrange visited relatives here on Sunday. __ Mrs. G.W. Emory is reported very sick at her home. __ Mr. J.H. Crowder and wife of Lanett visited relatives near here on Sunday. __ Mr. J.C. Turner made a flying trip to LaGrange last Saturday. __ Mrs. Thos. Turner is visiting relatives in Texas, Georgia. __ Mr. Owen Hill of Langdale visited relatives here last week. __ Mr. J.H. Striblin, after a long illness, died at his home near Bacon Level last Friday night. __ JOHNSON'S CROSS ROADS Miss Susan Brown has been confined to her room for more than a week. Dr. Pool prounces it as blood poison. __ LOCAL News Mrs. A.J. Noles and children were here this week for the commencement. __ Mrs. Hopkins and Miss Tommie Jenkins of Hogansville are visiting Mrs. Walter Kirk. __ Mr. George Nix and sister of Tallapoosa county visited the family of W.H. Welch on Saturday and Sunday. __ Mr. A.J. Hand, an old and prominent citizen of Truett, died last Saturday and was buried at Beulah on Sunday. __ Mr. A.C. Saxon and wife were in town Monday returning from Almond where they attended the funeral of Mrs. Jas. Clegg who died Friday.
