Brown Mr. Editor, It has been some time since I have written you so I will let your readers know that I am yet alive and reading war news when I read anything, except the Leader, which we are always glad to peruse, for it seems like we are hearing from home folks when we read of old Randolph friends of whom I have known since I was a child, and I learned to love them. Some of them have moved away and some have passed over the Jordan of Death and are at rest. My father's family are divided; two sisters and my father's remains are in the old Shiloh church graveyard near old Uncle Willis Johnson's. My brother is living and in Atlanta. My dear mother lives with me and my quiet little family. We have three sweet little girls and one boy, the baby, one year old. Sometimes I think I will go back to old Randolph and spend a week and see as many old friends as I can and go back to my old home and see the land I cleared and see where I once cut and hauled logs and hauled rock and made brick and made corn and made cotton and the orchard I planted and the vineyard I put out and a number of other things. But I have turned my hands to other tasks since I left there and no time for anything of any kind now. We like the people of Cleburne as we did the people of Randolph. We find friends here and good neighbors too. We have several families from Randolph in our county. We have a preacher from Randolph to preach to two churches here, Bro. W.H. Wright who lives near Lamar in your county. I don't know but I expect Bro. Wright preached to a large, if not the largest congregation here last Sunday that he has ever preached anywhere. Some estimate the number of persons to be at least 1,500 and some others estimate it as 1.300 persons. Bro. Wright made one of the best efforts of his life and it was an able sermon. If you people were to leave it to Cleburne to nominate your probate judge you certainly would have a Baptist preacher provided he would agree to come back and preach for us. I think it would be right hard for you to beat the selection that we would make. Cleburne has already named her ticket and it is a good one too. A.A. Hurst for probate judge, W.M. Garrett, a Baptist preacher for representative, Ben Owens and D.M. Kaylor for county commissioners. Mr. Kaylor was raised in Randolph. Our ticket will be elected, you mark the prediction, for every man is a good one. J.A.
