Harper and Miss Mattie Hornsby were married at Glenn, Georgia on Christmas Day. __ Mr. J.N. Burk left for Langdale a few days ago where he will make his future home. __ Mr. J.W. Kinney and wife of Rome, Ga. are here the guests of their father Mr. N.T. Foster. __ Mr. Geo. W. Lee and Miss Pearl Avery were married Christimas day last. __ WEHADKEE News Mr. F.A. Hill and family of Walnut Hill, Ga., visited the writer during the holidays. __ Mr. T.J. Barrettt of Anson, Texas is visiting his old home in this community. __ Mrs. A.J. Hester whose illness was mentioned some time ago is still very low. __ LOCAL News While in LaFayette last week we met our old friend J.W. Stallings. His friends here will be sorry to learn that he has had a good deal of affliction in his family of late. He is now compelled to walk on crutches. __ Mr. J.M. Ward, with his son-in-law R.O. Mooty and wife have moved to the former's place two miles south of town to engage in farming. __ Miss Lilla Cato of Grantaville, Ga., has been the guest of Mrs. Talley the past few days. __ Sam Dunkin went up to Atlanta last week to take a position with a wholesale house in that city. __ W.F. Ussery has been very ill for several days. __ Vinley M. Pittman arived here unexpectedly last night from Texas. He has just been mustered out of the volunteer ARmy and announces himself glad to be back home. __ The smallpox quarantine between Roanoke and Rock Mills has been removed. No further trouble is anticipated. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, February 22, 1899 ROCK MILLS News Mr. M. Duke has been very ill for a some time. __ Mrs. Sallie Gladney, an aged and respected lady, died at her home near here Saturday of last week. __ Mr. A.S. Head, one of our mill operatives, after a long illness, died at his home here Friday last. The remains were interred in Salem Cemetery on Sunday. He leaves a wife and two children to mourn his loss. __ WEHADKEE News Mr. J.M. Davis of Red Oak, Ga., visited relatives near this place last Friday. __ Mrs. Arthur Robertson who was hurt by a cow recently is convalescent. __ The old people say that last week was the coldest weather that has ever been in this county. The snow is from 12 to 18 inches deep where it drifted. __ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. George Heard Jr. of Langdale spent a few days here last week with relatives. __ Norman Carden, a well known citizen of Double Head, was shot with small shot last Saturday by someone whose name was not announced. He is not hurt seriously. __ Married in Five Points last Wednesday night, Miss Annie Marsh to Mr. Percy Johnson, a merchant of that village. __ Mrs. Carrie Moore, we regret to note is right ill again. __ DEATH OF DR. J.D. LILES Dr. J.D. Liles died at the home of his daughter Mrs. J.T. Nelson, just over in Lanett, at about four o'clock Monday morning the 13th inst. He has been suffering with lagrippe for several days but had about recovered from that complaint and had taken supper at the table with the family Sunday evening. His death was sudden and resulted from heart disease. Dr. Liles moved here something over a year a half ago, since when he and his wife have been residing with their son-in-law, Mr. J.T. Nelson. At his old home in Roanoke he was held in the highest esteem and was fast making friends with all whom he came in contact with here. He was a Mason and a member of the Methodist church. A genial gentleman, a capable physcian and a man of noble impulses, he earnestly endeavored to faithfully discharge the responsibities devolving upon him in the various relations of life. The bereaved wife and daughter have the profound sympathy of a large circle of friends.
