His remains will be laid to rest at Concord today. The burial services will be conducted by the Masons. He leaves a wife and one small child. __ Wednesday morning, Berry Collier departed this life. His death resulted from paralysis. He was buried at Mt. Hickory, Rev. John Satterwhite conducting the services. __ ROCK MILLS News Mr. William Albright and Miss Docia McClurg were married at Franklin, Georgia, Friday last. __ Mrs. Charlotte Reid, an esteemed christian lady, died at her home in LaGrange last Wednesday. Her remains were brought back Thursday and interred in Wehadka cemetery. __ Rev. Chas. Heard was the guest of his brother-in-law, Mr. C.M. Hall on Sunday. __ Mr. C.L. Ussery, a prominent citizen near Bacon Level, is dangerously ill with pneumonia. __ Mr. John Muldrow who has been attending college at Bowdon, Ga., for some time, returned to his home near here last week. __ Dr. W.W. Bonner is very ill at his home. Hope soon to note his recovery. __ Mrs. Dean of Franklin, Georgia is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. L.C. Harmon. __ LOCAL News S.C. Faucett is very ill. __ Mr. G.W. Waits, an old and useful citizen of Louina, died Monday morning. He had previously suffered a stroke of paralysis. __ We are in receipt of a card containing the announcement of the marriage of Miss Hortense Griffin to Mr. Thomas E. Curry, Sunday evening, March 11th at eight o'clock at her home in Gypsum, Texas. __ Messrs. S.B. and H.O. Gaston are making arrangements to place and operate a saw mill at Chulafinnee in this county. They have purchased 200 acres of fine timber land and will begin cutting and shipping timber in a short time. Heflin will be their shipping point. The Cleburne New Era __ Mr. James Hodge, an old citizen living near Malone's Ferry, was struck with paralysis Monday night and is in critical condition. __ J.R. Ballew reports his mother-in-law Mrs. T.W. Atchison as being dangerously ill. __ WEDOWEE News Capt. B.H. Ford has been very ill for several weeks past. We are glad to say he is improving and hope he will soon be well. Mrs. Slay of Roanoke is with her father Capt. Ford during his illness. __ PITTMAN Community News Mrs. Ollie Higgins of Roanoke has been visiting her parents at Pittman this week. We are extremely sorry to say that the news came Thursday that her husband was quite ill. We hope that he may soon recover. Miss Dessa Pittman accompanied her sister Mrs. Higgins home where she will spend some days. __ WELSH News Mrs. Richard Fallaw and his daughter Miss Mattie of Gold Hill have been visiting relatives here for several days past. __ Mr. Cephas Jordan and wife of West Point spent a few days with the former's father, Mr. W.N. Jordan the first of the week. __ Mr. John Veasey of Fredonia spent Sunday in our community. __ LOCAL News Mrs. Will Dean came from LaFayette on Friday to visit her sister, Mrs. J.H. Walker. __ Prof. J.P. Jordan was in to see us Monday. He has closed his school at Level Road and will now try his luck at farming. __ Louis Cleveland returned Monday from LaGrange accompanied by Mrs. H.G. Ruggles and children who have been visiting in that city the past week. __ A most deplorable tragedy occurred in Franklin, Georgia last Sunday. Charles E. Eady shot and fatally wounded Sam G. Carter. Both were merchants and prominent citizens of that place. The trouble grew out of a land dispute, as we are informed. __ Monday, the little 5 year old daughter of W.E. Bennett fell into a pot of boiling water and burned both hands and arms in a frightful manner. __ We regret to learn that J.I. Albright is a very sick man. He has been compelled to close his school at Standing Rock and his father went over Friday and took him home Sunday. __ J.G Cheney is here assisting his brother G.R. Cheney. Mr. Cheney says the phones will be in operation in a few days. __ Miss Clara Baker has been spending several days with her sister, Mrs. John T. Moon. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, March 21, 1900 PITTMAN Community News Mrs. Docia Pittman is ill with rheumatism and has been for several days. __ "Uncle" Fonsie Pittman is very sick. We wish for his speedy recovery. __ LOCAL News H.T. Matthews called yesterday and ordered The Leader sent to his mother who is now at Dudleyville. __ Married on March 15th at 7 p.m. Miss Rowena Ethel Oldham to Mr. Herbert Hamilton Cauthen of Winston, S.C, the ceremony being performed by Rev. G.L. Jenkins at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Oldham. __ Col. Hiram Hawkins of Barbour county spent Friday in Roanoke and Rock Mills. He is an old war comrade of Capt. F.P. Randle and he made many new friends among our people. __ W.T. Daniel is in a precarious health and has been in Atlanta for treatment for some time. __ The negro who shot Mr. Jim Gay in Chambers county was arrested near Brockville and lodged in Wedowee jail on Sunday. __ Mrs. J.H. Harris, Mrs. Warren Harris and Mrs. B.M. Washburn arrived on yesterday's train to attend the funeral of Mrs. J.P. Harris. __ A SUDDEN DEATH The news of the sudden death of Mrs. J.P. Harris at her home near Radney's Chapel, carried sadness to many hearts. Monday evening late, Mr. Harris went out to feed, leaving his wife sitting in a rocker with her babe of seven weeks in her arms. When he returned he was shocked to find the beloved wife and mother dead. It was evident that the end came without struggle as the body was occupying a natural position and the babe was lying in the mother's lap. Mrs. Harris had not been in good health for some time but her death was unexpected and it it supposed to have resulted from heart disease. The burial took place at Concord this morning, the services being conducted by Rev. A.M. Yoe, the pastor of the deceased. A husband and two children, besides many relatives and friends, suffer a great loss in this untimely death. We deeply sympathize with them. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, March 28, 1900 PITTMAN News Mr. Wayne Pittman had the misfortune to lose the finest house on his plantation by fire. __ Mrs. J.D. Cunningham is very sick. __ HAPPY LAND News G. Brown who moved to Wise a few days since is visiting relatives in this community. His health is poor. Dr. Pool is treating him. __ G.M. Brown has been in feeble health for several weeks. He thinks his prospects of a speedy recovery are not very bright. Drs. Hudson and Gains of LaFayette have charge of his case. __ ROCK MILLS News Mr. Franklin Lane and Miss Beulah Jordan pased through our city Sunday enroute to Franklin, Georgia where we learn they were married. __ Mrs. White, the mother of Mr. Jake White of this place, has been very ill at the home of her son Mr. W.F. Harris, but we are glad to note that she is improving at this time. __ Miss Nettie Sutherland and sister Mrs. Alice Turner were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Bishop on Sunday. __ Mrs. J.C. Turner and family will move to LaGrange this week. __ WEDOWEE News Capt. B.H. Ford is quite sick. __ LEVEL ROAD News "Uncle" Marion George who has been ill has recovered. __ LOCAL News Byron Trammell has been appointed United States Deputy Marshall in the stead of Charles Booth who resigned. __ We learn of the death of Mrs. T.W. Atchison near West, last Sunday. Also occurred on the same day, the death of Mr. W.D. Baldwin, an aged citizen who lives near Omaha. __ Just at time of going to press we learn of the death of Mr. Thos. C. Park, an old and respected citizen who lived four miles west of town. His death occurred this morning after a short illness. The funeral will occur at 3 o'clock tomorrow at Lebanon. Mr. Park is a half brother of Mrs. Sue Pittman and Mrs. J.M. Pittman. ___ Mr. R. Beverly was married to Miss Donie Rainey last Sunday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Cliett officiating. __ We regret to note the serious illness of Mrs. H.G. Ruggles. Her father, mother and one sister are here and other relatives have been wired for.
