Randle and family moved to Lineville last week where Mr. Randle goes to engage in the mercantile business. __ W. M. Cole who has been dangerously ill for several weeks died Sunday morning at his home about two miles east of town. The funeral services occurred at Bethel on Monday and were conducted by Rev. H.J. Holiday. __ Mr. W.H. Bass, a venerable citizen living a mile south of town died Monday about noon. He was buried with Masonic honors at the city cemetery yesterday afternoon. Rev. A.S. Brannan conducted the services. "Uncle Hardy" was the familiar name by which Mr. Bass was known. He has lived here many years and enjoyed the esteem of his neighbors. For many years he has been in feeble health. We sympathize with his children in their loss. __ We learn of the marriage in Lineville last Sunday of Alonza L. Kent, a prosperous merchant of Wedowee, to Miss Cora Overton, sister of John W. Overton, and an estimable young lady. We offer congratulations. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, December 11, 1901 ROCK MILLS News J.C. Turner and family left last Thursday for Texas. __ F.W. Hill and wife have adopted an orphan child from the Orphan's Home at Decatur, Georgia. __ Mrs. Swint has been very sick this week. __ WEHADKEE News R.H. Stitt has moved to Rocky Mount, Ga. __ Mrs. Milton Webb died last Friday and was buried at Big Spring on Saturday. __ Last Sunday near Potash, Mr. B.L. Fincher and Miss Leola Skipper were united in marriage, at the bride's home at High Shoals. Also married on Sunday, were Mr. J.W. Cunningham and Miss Lois Weathers. We wish for these young people a long and properous life with no clouds to cross their pathways. __ NAPOLEON News Tom Anderson has bought land in Texas and will remain there. __ Peavy Bailey who went from Haywood to Lanett in the fall, is down with a severe case of the fever. __ Frank Benefield is moving to Jonesboro, Ga. __ Jno. Moon and family and Belton Adcock have moved to Langdale. __ LOCAL News Mrs. J.R. Newman and child visited the family of her father, H.T. Mathews the past week. __ In the Carrollton Free Press is an account of the romantic marriage of Miss May Tumlin of that city to Mr. D.C. Mitchell of Springfield, Tenn. The marriage occurred upon their first meeting. Miss Tumlin has visited Roanoke on several occasions. __ Mrs. G.W. Cox and two daughters attended the funeral Monday of Mrs. Cox's nephew, Hugh Raney, who was buried at Rock Springs, Chambers County. __ At 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon Owen Stevens will be married to Miss Etta Tatum near Milltown, Rev. G.L. Jenkins will perform the ceremony. The bride is a cousin of Sam Tatum of this city, who will attend the wedding. __ Mrs. Martha Fausett continues very ill. __ The following marriage invitation was received at the Leader's office: Mrs. L.C. Hardy requests the honor of your presence at the marriage of her daughter Claude to Mr. William Lee Yarbrough on Thursday evening, December 19th at eight o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Hill in Roanoke, Alabama. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, December 18, 1901 NEW HOPE News Old "Grandpa" French is ninety-eight years of age and can get about better than a man of less than one third of his years. Its very common for him to walk from his home to see his son, a distance of six or eight miles. __ LOCAL News Mr. John Truett, the venerable father of Buck Truett, died last Saturday. __ Warren Hester is dangerously ill of pneumonia. __ Mr. James Hill, a very aged citizen of the Penton community, died Sunday. __ The venerable Mrs. Martha Fausett lingers at death's door. Messrs. George, Nathan and Robert Fausett have come to her bedside and with other realtives are watching anxiously and lovingly for the expected change. __ Mr. Henry Walden spent last Sunday with his nephew J.A. Walden. He was enroute from his home at Alberville to Florida. This is his third winter in Florida. __ J.W. Fuller spent Sunday with his sister Mrs. Jason Ramage near Five Points, who with her husband, leaves this week to make her home in Texas. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, December 25, 1901 ROCK MILLS News W.K. Bennett and family moved to LaGrange last week. We regret very much to lose these good people. __ Willie Allison left last week for Winsborough, Texas. __ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Beeland have been spending the past few days with Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Weathers. Mrs. Beeland is a sister of Mr. Weathers and was lately married to Mr. Beeland at Conyers, Ga. A good likeness of the bride and groom appeared in the Constitution of the 15th instant. They will make their future home in Nashville. __ Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Cauthen have gone to South Carolina to enjoy Christmas with the former's parents. __ Robert Carroll and bride of Atlanta are visiting Roanoke relatives. __ Miss Lilla Cato of Grantville, Ga., is expected to arrive Thursday to visit her cousin Mrs. R.T. West. __ Chas. A. Cardwell in the Leader's office last week. He came to order his paper changed from Texas to Truett. He says he has had enough of Texas. __ Mrs. John Talley and Mrs. Anne Bachus of Temple, Texas arrived Monday to visit realtives in this vicinity. Mrs. Bachus who is a sister of John, Tom and Jeff Belcher, stopped off at Five Points. __ The old Ward residence, at Ward's Mill, was burned by fire at 3 o'clock Saturday morning. It was occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Olin Ward and they barely escaped with their lives. All their household goods were destroyed. The house was insured for $1500. __ Three Christmas weddings are reported near town on the south side as follows: Tuesday night, Joe Grady and Miss Sallie Cole, daughter of C.H. Cole at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Sidney Simonton and Miss Lola Goodwin, daughter of B.C. Goodwin Wednesday afternoon, Calvin Moon and Miss Susie Sledge, daughter of S.N. Sledge. ____ Mrs. Jim Durham died at Standing Rock on Sunday morning. __ Middleton Harris and Tom Anderson, former citizens of this county fame in from Texas on a visit Monday night. __ James Sparks, wife and child, arrived from Texas on a visit Monday night. Mrs. Sparks is a sister of W.F. Ussery of this city. __ MARRIED ON SUNDAY An interesting marriage occurred in Wedowee at 1 o'clock last Sunday afternoon. At that time the lives and fortunes of Mr. Henry Louis Zobel and Miss Orrie Robertson were united by Rev. A.S. Brannan, the officiating minister. The bridal party came to Roanoke Sunday afternoon, where the newly wedded couple will be at home at the residence of Mr. Emil Zobel for the present. The groom is a clever and successful business man and is esteemed for the integrity and uprightness which marks him in all the relations of life. He is to be congratulated upon winning so fair and lovely a bride. She is the daughter of W.C.S.
