Welch and Mr. W.H. Welch, recently celebrated her 83rd birthday. She still enjoys good health and strength. __ Needham Avery, who has been visiting his father Rev. W.R. Avery, boarded the train here yesterday for Louisville, stopping in Birmingham, enroute to his new home. __ Earnest Sharman left yesterday on a visit to his brother at San Angelo, Texas. __ Marshall Campbell of Phenix City, shot and probably fatally wounded Richard Thetford, a white butcher. Physicians say that Thetford cannot recover. He is about 35 years old and has a wife and two or three children. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, April 13, 1903 WEDOWEE News Rev. S.B. Williams, pastor of the M.E. Church at this place, left last Tuesday morning for Boaz to be married to Miss Minnie Holder. He returned last Saturday with his lovely bride. We wish the young couple a long and happy life. __ WELSH News We were shocked to hear of the sudden death of G.W. Robinson, a traveling salesman from New York. He died at Hickory Flat, three miles east of here Friday morning. Neuralgia of the heart was said to be the cause of his death. His remains were shipped to his wife in New York on Saturday. The deceased was 51 years of age. He had spent several days previous in Roanoke. __ WEHADKEE News Mr. Jim Gore, an old citizen of Beat 4, died Friday night. __ LOCAL News Mrs. J.C. Pound and granddaughter Olive Moran of Linton, Ga., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jno. A. Carlisle. __ A negro man whose name we could not learn, killed a negro woman named Anna Brown just over the Georgia line on Monday. He was seen later at Hickory Flat. __ On March 30th, Mr. Jesse Sharman was married to Miss Myrtis Taylor, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.R. Taylor in this city. The ceremony was performed by Rev. T.S. Hubert and was witnessed by a few friends and relatives. The groom is a son of V.W. Sharman. The Leader joins their friends in wishing them a long and successful journey through life together. ___ James Rice died on March 23rd at his home southwest of Roanoke. His friends speak of him as a man of many good qualities and a valiant Confederate soldier. Our sympathies go out to the bereaved. ___ W.L. Vickery received the sad news Saturday that his brother T.C. Vickery had died in Lulu, Ga. Owing to poor schedules it was impossible for Mr. Vickery to attend the funeral which was in Toccoa, Ga., on Sunday. He has our sympathy. __ Mr. Walter E. Carlisle married Mrs. Sallie Walker Curtis at Benton, Alabama on April 6th. They will make Opelika their home. We offer our congratulations. __ REV. R.A. TIMMONS DEAD The writer is pained to record the death of Rev. Robert A. Timmons, which occurred in Gadsden on Friday. He had been in failing health for a year and at the time of his death was occuping a superannuate's home in Gadsden. His remains were brought to LaFayette where they were interred Sunday morning. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. R.W. Anderson, assisted by Rev. J.S. Chadwick. The deceased leaves a wife and one son, Mr. James E. Timmons, formerly editor of the LaFayette Sun but now of Opelika. Dr. Timmons was born in Heard County, Georgia 67 years ago. he was a member of Hilliard's Legion of the Confederate Army and was a Methodist minister for 48 years, a mamber of the North Alabama Conference. Twenty years he was a presiding elder, the last four years of this time being spent in the LaFayette district. He was recognized by all the people as a good man, strong in faith and good works. Many will read this notice with feelings of personal sorrow. The writer sympathizes with those who mourn the loss of an affectionate husband and father. His long life of usefulness will abide as a monument to his memory. ____ NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, April 20, 1904 NAPOLEON News In the Peace settlement the measles are raging. The families of Z.A. Bailey, Jim Shelnutt, Walter Shelnutt, Joel Yates and Bob Tomlinson are stricken. __ LOCAL News Mrs. Pulliam and Mrs. Bettie Brittain left Thursday on an extended visit to relatives and friends in LaGrange and Palmetto, Ga. __ S.H. Striplin received a telegram the first of last week announcing the sudden death in Ashland of the wife of his brother, W.M. Striplin. Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Striplin attended the funeral. __ Mrs. J.W. Ray is in Columbus visiting her mother who is reported seriously ill. __ J.D. Holder, a brother of G.M. and W.M. Holder, died Sunday morning near Rock Mills. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, April 27, 1904 WEDOWEE News Mr. Byron parker of Florida is visiting his brother, C.L. Parker of this place. __ Miss Willie Belle Stewart is visiting her sister Mrs. Emmett Thomason in Cleburne County. __ Mrs. Emma Melton of Radney's Chapel is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Saxon. __ HAPPY LAND News "Uncle" William Burditt continues in feeble health. __ "Uncle" Feland Roberts, whose home is near Wedowee is spending a few weeks with relatives here. __ CORBIN News The nine year old girl of Henry Abner died last night from a burn received a day or two ago. The remains will be interred at Liberty Grove this evening. __ LOCAL News J.E. Mann went to Livingston springs yesterday to recuperate his health. __ Mrs. J.M. Wilder of Georgia spent Saturday and Sunday with her son Mason Wilder. __ James L.
