The old man was dressed out in his best and he enjoyed the day to the full. A few of his neighbors with well filled baskets were on hand. He was remarkably vigorous both in mind and strength for one of so many years. Bob Pate and Judge Weathers came out from Wedowee and brought a load of items from the good people of their town such as flour, sugar, coffee, tobacco, money and numerous other necessities which caused the old man and his widowed daughter to rejoice. We had first, song and prayer and then talks by Judge Weathers, Esq. Pate and your correspondent, all of which Uncle Burrell and those assembled enjoyed immensely. After conclusion of these services the good ladies proposed a feast in the shady grove near the house from the viands of the aforesaid baskets. We all did eat well and were filled. Now I have all confidence in our commissioners and why they can't see their way clear to help Uncle Burrell is beyond me. If they will only pay him a visit during their next session and see for themselves his pitiful and helpless condition. I feel sure their hearts will be opened to such an extent that technicalities will be brushed aside and relief appropriated to this old man who has long been a taxpayer and an honest upright citizen of our county. It is no fault of his that he has lived so long, lost his sight and former means. If the commissioners cannot come to see him I respectfully ask them to consult R.S. Pate, Judge Weathers and Rev. C.T. Culpepper who are witnesses of his condition. ___ Willie and Kinney McBride of Tallapoosa, Georgia visited Nat Shelnutt's family last week. __ LOCAL News Miss Minnie Lee Jackson, the daughter of Mr. J.M.
