The LaFayette Sun ---- RECKLESS SHOOTING SATURDAY NIGHT; Eugene Jeffers Wounded Saturday Night by Unknown Parties; Was Evidently Mistaken for Another. About 9 o'clock last Saturday night as Eugene Jeffers was returning home from work he was fired upon twice by unknown parties in the dark. He was carrying a bundle and one shot passed through the flesh of the left arm, grazed his stomach and lodged between the bones of the right forearm near the wrist. While quite painful, the wounds are not considered serious. It seems that three young men from the factory had some words with some negroes near the place of the shooting just before young Jeffers came along and the latter was probably mistaken for one of the former. The Marshall went to work on the case and arrested two negroes named Os Morris and Sam Lay. Yesterday afternoon the latter was given a preliminary hearing before Mayor Heflin on the charge of assault with intent to murder. At the hour as we go to press, 8 o'clock Wednesday morning, the examination of witnesses is still in progress. The conclusion of this and the trial of the other negro will likely occupy the entire day. It is sincerely hoped that the guilty ones will be found and such outrageous conduct stopped. ---- Yesterday morning Mr. T.J.
