The children and guests assembed at the old homestead and conversed together until 11 a.m., the hour set apart for the celebration ceremony. The sermon was very interesting to all present and the concluding remarks were highly appropriate to the occasion. The attendants marched out into the yard which was beautifully shaded by very large oaks, where a bountiful repast was served. After dinner the assembled guests enjoyed themselves delightfully in the grove surrounding the house and in exploring the apple orchard and grape vineyard. The celebration was a very enjoyable one and will be long remembered by those who were so fortunate as to attend the reunion. ---- The home of Mrs. A.J. Mr. Colley was not feeling well when he left and he continued to grow worse until his death occurred in the North Carolina town last Sunday. Dr. J.M. Welch and the father of the deceased, Mr. J.Z.D. Colley, were on the Monday morning train to attend the sick man when the telegram announcing his death arrived just in time for them to alight from the moving train. The remains, escorted by Mr. Carter, arrived yesterday and were taken to Truett for interment. Rev. John Calvin Colley was 24 years of age and regarded as one of the most excellent and promising young men ever reared in this county. The Sunday before he left home on Monday he was ordained; in the afternoon he administered the right of baptism and at night he preached in his home church. The news of his premature and unexpected death was a shock to the entire section in which he was best known. It was especially a sad dissapointment to his good friend Mr. Walker Pearson who was generously furnishing the money for this worthy young man to pursue his studies. With the relatives and friends of the deceased, the Leader laments the loss which the country sustains in the death of his useful, consecrated young man. --- FAMILY REUNION On September 5th the Pittman family, with a host of friends and relatives, met together at the old homestead of W.A. Pittman to celebrate the 79th birthday of Mrs. W.A. Pittman. All of her children with a large number of grand and great grandchildren were present. Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Handley, Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Hill and Dr. W.L. Heflin of Roanoke were among those present. After a song, Rev. Will Avery led in prayer. G.W. Hill read a portion of scripture and some talks were given by Messrs. Hill, Avery and John T. Heflin. A song was sun and we all gave the old mother in Israel our hand in token of our love and friendship and all were made to feel that the spirit of the lord was present with us and we could say it was good to be here. Then we repaired to the back of the house where along table had been prepared and after the many good things had been placed thereon, it was announced that all things were ready. And how we enjoyed the feast! May God bless the invalid mother. She too, enjoyed it with us. If it is the lord's will may she live many years to enjoy the reunion of her children and many friends. It was an enjoyable day and late in the evening it was a general goodbye. Let us have more of these reunions as they link us closer together and better fit us for the great reunion above. W.
