Trent of Franklin, Georgia but formerly of this city, has been paying a visit to his native home in Virginia. He had a great time and made a big hit with the people of the old Mother state, as the following correspondence from Ridgeway to the Henry Bulletin in Virginia will show: "Ridgeway and its surrounding country enjoyed quite a treat on the night of Jan. 2nd. Dr. W.S. Trent of Franklin, Georgia is visiting his uncle John H. Trent and it was advertised he would deliver a free lecture on education on Wednesday night. At the hour mentioned a large crowd had assembled to hear this noted speaker and famous yarn teller. The doctor was in fine form and held his audience from start to finish and there has never been anything of the kind here enjoyed half so much. While the doctor dwelt on real facts of the importance of better education he illustrated the same with an occasional good joke and the applause and laughter fairly shook the walls of the building. The doctor is a great humorist and perfect mimic and to see and hear him is to like him. He is a son of Dr. P.G. Trent of Roanoke, Ala., was born in the town of Ridgeway 36 years ago and is now paying his first visit to the home of his birth. While he is in love with his adopted state, Georgia, he never fails to expand himself and say with emphasis "I am a Virginian by birth". He is now a member of the Georgia legislature, having won over both of his opponents last fall by 159 votes. His home is on the rippling waters of the Chattahoochee River at Franklin, the county seat of Heard County. He is Mayor of his town where he says harmony and good order rule supreme. The Dr. has just entered the field of politics and seems to be in perfect love and accord with the same, and, as we see it now, he has a bright future before him, and we wish him the success he so well deserves. " ---- CARD OF THANKS To each and every one of the numberless friends who, with such unselfish kindness and sacrificing devotion, watched with and assisted us during our recent sad bereavement and to the physicians Drs. Stevenson and Striplin, in whose strength and learning we will ever rely, we desire to return our heartfelt thanks and pray that the Omnipotent Hand will ever rest on the head of each. Mrs. H.L. He leaves a widow, one son, R.L. Watson at Tuskegee and one daughter Mrs. B.L. Cameron of LaGrange, all of whom were with the deceased when the end came. Mr. Watson was a life long member of the Presbyterian church and was an elder in the church here at the time of his death.
