Lancaster, a former resident and Methodist missionary in Cuba, and we quote the following paragraphs which may be of interest to our readers: Camaguey, Cuba Feb. 11, 1907 Dear Bro. Stevenson, You will see the above that the Bishop has changed my location. I leave La Gloria after more than two years of work there. There were some visible results of good done there and we trust more was done than we could see. The people treated me royally on my leaving, as they had during my stay. I was entertained and pounded with fruit. I am now in Camaguey, the capitol of this province, a city of some fifty thousand people. This city was first built on a coast, 47 miles from here but the pirates were so bad it was moved inland to its present site. There is a great deal of interesting history connected with this old town. It's name on most of the maps is Puerto Principe, the chief port. That was the name it bore on the coast but its new name is the old Indian name for the site, Camaguey. We have two churches and a college here. This is the first year of the church work. I have charge of both churches but have a Cuban preacher for the Spanish work. I have direct charge of the English speaking congregation. Our first services in both churches were held yesterday and we feel very hopeful. We have a good church just being completed, also a parsonage. Yours as ever, J.P. Lancaster ---- HAPPY LAND News The friends of Miss Cora Roberts, formerly of this community, learned with regret that while descending a flight of stairs at the Roanoke Cotton Mills, she fell and sustained injuries from which she has not yet recovered.
