Garrett, a well known young business man of Dadeville, which place will be their future home. --- LOCAL News Mrs. J.T. Talley went to Hogansville yesterday to visit relatives. --- The picture of little Rose Lee Beeland was printed in the Atlanta Constitution and Journal on Sunday as the winner of the first prize in the 2 year old class at the recent baby show in Atlanta. The little Miss recently lived in Roanoke with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Weathers. ---- A.F. Moon has sold out and moved to Omaha, Texas. --- NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, November 13, 1907 BACON LEVEL News J.W. Adamson and wife of Glenn, Ga., have moved into our town. Mr. Adamson is running a saw mill on M.W. Lane's place. --- WEHADKEE News Travis Alsobrook who has been attending school at Roanoke, returned home last week and is quite sick with the fever. --- ROANOKE R.F.D. No. 1 News W.T. Orr is confined to his bed with chills and fever. --- Mrs. J.H. Benefield was quite sick last week but is better at this time. --- J.J. Swint died at his father's home last Monday of consumption. He leaves a wife and three small children, besides his parents and brothers and sisters, to mourn his death. --- ROCK MILLS News Tom Philpot of Roanoke was buried at Wehadkee on Thursday. Mr. Philpot was once a citizen of Rock Mills and was known to be a good christian man. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. --- Mrs. W.L. Hays has gone to visit relatives at Little Rock, Ark. --- Mrs. Joe Allison of Pickton, Texas is spending awhile with the family of her brother, G.W. Holley. --- Miss Maud Bonner and Jeff Adamson were married at the home of the bride Sunday morning. --- W.B. Swint of LaGrange has come to spend a while with his sister Mrs. Philip Mooney. --- MARRIED IN AMERICUS Last Sunday afternoon at half past six o'clock, at the home of the bride in Americus, Georgia, Mr. Bratton Kennedy was united in marriage to Miss Izola Gilliam. Rev. O.P. Gilbert, pastor of the Baptist church in that city officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy reached Sylacauga on the Central Train Monday night and have rooms with the family of the editor of the Sylacauga Advance. Mr. Kennedy has considereable experience in the newspaper business and has always made many strong friends wherever he lived. Miss Gilliam is one of the most attractive young ladies in her home town, Americus, and we trust that much success and happiness may attend them throughout life. The Sylacauga Advance. ---- LOCAL News John Wilder, who has been sick so long of a complication of diseases, died in Lowell community last Thursday. --- Mr. J.J. Awbrey Sr. died last Sunday afternoon at his home in Heard County, Georgia. He was 79 years of age and very feeble. He was the father of A.M. Awbrey and grandfather of H.N. Awbrey who with their wives, attended the funeral at New Hope church. The aged widow of Mr. Awbrey is herself very feeble. --- For several days past Mrs. Z.J. Wright has been desperately ill but during the past twenty-four hours appears to be steadily improving. All hope for her recovery. --- Last Wednesday night, at the home of the bride's parents Mrs. and Mrs. W.K. Bennett in Rock Mills, Miss Lizzie Bennett was married to Mr. J.H. Tolbert who lives near Opelika. Rev. C. Wolford performed the ceremony. --- E.M. Moore went to Atlanta on Sunday and returned with his wife and child and Mrs. Moore's sister, Mrs. W.A. Young who will spend two months here. We are pleased to note that Mr. and Mrs. Moore will likely make their home in Roanoke. --- W.C. Stone and R.L. Johnson of Dadeville were called here by the serious illness of their sister, Mrs. Z.J. Wright. --- Mrs. M.F. Walker and Mrs. McIntosh of Alex City have been in Roanoke the past few days on account of the illness of Mrs. Z.J. Thompson --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, November 20, 1907 ROCK MILLS News Grover Bonner and Miss Maggie Chastine went to Evansville on Sunday and were happily married. --- Mr. Lewis McClurg was taken suddenly ill Monday night. --- LOCAL News Sunday afternoon Miss Lottie Ray went down to Opelika where she was met by Mr. A.J. Crumpler, a freight train conductor on the run from Columbus to Birmingham and in a short while they were married. The fair and youthful bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Ray. Mr. Crumpler formerly ran a train into Roanoke for awhile. Mr. and Mrs. Crumpler will make their home in Columbus. --- One day last week, Love White had the misfortune to shoot his left foot with a shot gun, taking off one toe. --- Mrs. W.H. Brittain is spending this week at her old home in Whitesburg, Georgia where she will witness today the marriage of her sister Miss Kate Maddox to B.B. Pearson. The bride has many friends in Roanoke who will wish her much happiness. --- Mrs. Mary Lane has returned from a two months stay with relatives in LaGrange. --- NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, November 27, 1907 NAPOLEON News Mrs. Roxie Prince, wife of George Prince, was buried here Thursday afternoon. She left an infant only a month old. --- Mr. Riddle of North Carolina is visiting his mother, Mrs. L.W. Townsend, whom he has not seen since he was eight years old. --- BACON LEVEL News Prof. J.D. Lane came up from Prattville on Thursday, summoned here by the death of his sister, Mrs. J.W. Sharman. --- A very sad death was that of Mrs. J.W. Sharman of Rock Mills, who was buried here today. Mrs. Sharman had lived here all of her life until her marriage a few years ago to J.W. Sharman, a prosperous merchant of Rock Mills. No one had more friends than she in this community and many hearts sympathize with the lonely husband and little boy, and mourn her untimely death. Mrs. Sharman had been an invalid for some time and seemed to realize that she would never be well again and expressed her readiness to go. She leaves besides the husband and little son, her mother Mrs. W.C. Lane, four brothers, C.A. and M.W. Lane of this place, Prof. J.D. Lane of Prattville, and Dr. S.W. Lane of Roanoke and one sister, Mrs. Mary Bradshaw of this place, with a host of relatives and friends to mourn her death. May the Lord comfort the bereaved ones with the consolation " We shall meet beyond the river where the surges cease to roll." ---- WEHADKEE News W.T. Kent has sold his farm and nursery to Jeff Prestridge and will go to Atlanta. --- Tom Fincher is the richest man in our community. Two eight pound boys arrived at his home last Monday. --- G.W. Norton has been appointed constable for Beat 5. --- LOCAL News Sheriff Walden was in town yesterday. From him we learned that his son Urban went over to Rockalo, Georgia on Sunday and was married to Miss Florence Combs. --- G.M. Walton, who until recently was a section boss on the A & B Railway with headquarters at Roanoke, was found dead in bed last Thursday night at Columbus where he recently went and secured a job. His family was living here at the time. --- Winston Bradley, a brother of Prof. J.D. Bradley, died of rheumatism of the heart in LaGrange on Monday.
