Seegar and wife and made their bright and cheerful home sad and lonely by taking their oldest son Tom, as he was familiarly called,. He was only ill a few days. He had fine medical aid rendered by Drs. Taylor and Disharoon but the Lord had called and he had to obey. He bore all his afflictions patiently. As his little friends came in from time to time, he would smile and bow his head, although he was suffering intense pain. When he had suffered from day to day, waiting for relief and all hopes were gone, he said to his weeping parents that he would have to leave them, but God would take care of him. He said that he could trust God. Tom was a good boy. Those that knew him loved him best. He was gentle and kind. He was agreeable at home, at school and elsewhere. He loved and obeyed his parents and was true to his brother and sister. He was born June 16, 1898 and died May 15, 1910. The funeral service was conducted by the writer at Springfield church, there being a large crowd of relatives and friends present. The service was very touching with songs led by Bro. I.W. Lewis, with Miss Shelnutt on the organ. The service was conducted at the grave, where John Tom was laid to rest in the famiy cemetery near the home. Woodfin Brannan received a wound from a pistol in the hand of Lewis Bingham. The ball entered at one side of the abdomen and was taken out at the other. Fortunately it did not penetrate any vital parts. It is said that some words were passed between the two young men on the ball ground and the trouble was renewed later at the drug store, when Brannan is alleged to have struck Bingham and the shooting followed. Three shots were fired. Only one struck the mark intended but two handsome show cases were broken by the wild bullets. The friends of Mr. Bingham swore out a warrant for him before Justice G.W. Stevens and he was placed under a bond of $5000. which was quickly made. LUMP HARMON IN LANETT IN RAIDING AN ALLEGED BLIND TIGER The Leader is called upon to chronicle an array of homicides that have occurred within the past week within a radius of 25 miles of Roanoke. Both whites and blacks figured in the tragedies which occurred under varied conditions. Tuesday night of last week a negro named Lee Philpott was shot and killed near Fredonia. Marcellus Adams, a white man, was charged with the killing, which he denies. At his preliminary trial he was placed under a bond of $2500. It is alleged that Adams killed a negro some months ago. Last Wednesday afternoon in Beat 8 near Wadley, Sanders Hughuley, a negro, was shot and instantly killed by George Holloway, another negro. No cause is assigned to the killing. The murderer has not been arrested. The same afternoon another negro was killed, on the place of Jeff Belcher on Corn House creek. This time the victim was the 13 year old daughter of John Scales. It seems that some domestic trouble arose in which Scales, his wife and two other negro women figured. It is alleged that a gun was snapped at Scales and in the scuffle over the gun it was discharged and the daughter of Scales was killed. The latter then fled and has not been apprehended. A woman named Jerry Culberson was arrested, charged with complicity in the affair and is now in Wedowee jail. Another woman who was said to be present, Allene Barsh, was arrested Monday but released under a bond of $250. The last tragedy in the list is of general interest. It occurred last Friday at Lanett, where Sheriff Mose Walton and his son Deputy Homer Walton, of Chambers county, went to make some arrests in connection with some alleged blind tigers. From the best evidence we can get the officers were forbidden by Lumpkin Harmon, a white man, from entering his place, drawing his revolver at the same time. It seems that all three men began to shoot. Harmon was instantly killed. The deceased formerly lived in this county, part of the time at Rock Mills, as did his brother John, who was at first reported as the one killed. ---- LOCAL News Mrs. Lizzie McMurray of Malone, who has been visiting her brother Postmaster Swann, will proceed today to visit her sister Mrs. W.D.
