The former left yesterday on a two week visit to his brother in Texas. --- The 12 year old son of Frank Parrish, several miles northwest of town, was shot and almost instantly killed Monday afternoon by the accidental discharge of a gun which the lad and his little sister were handling. --- Mrs. J.C. Elliott of Opelika is visiting her daughter Mrs. E.P. Newman. --- J.B. Tomlin and family went to Selma on Saturday to visit the family of C.N. Tomlin for several days. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, December 14, 1910 LOCAL News Mrs. W.H. Lyon of Albertville has come to spend the winter with the family of her son, J.T. Lyon. --- J.F. Jordan, a good citizen of Route 3, was so unfortunate Monday as to have lime to fly in his eyes from a bursting barrel. One eye is slightly injured but it is feared he may lose the sight of the other eye. --- At the home of Mr. H.D. Pearson in Chambers County, his daughter Mrs. Hattie Whatley was married Sunday afternoon to Mr. Edgar Neece. This afternoon at 4 o'clock in LaGrange, a son of Mr. Pearson, Mr. Luke Pearson will be married to Miss Addie Dickinson. --- The Leader is in receipt of an annoucement from Rev. and Mrs. W.T. Andrews of the marriage of their daughter Miss Ola to Mr. Horace Massey Little. The ceremony occurred in Nashville on Dec. 7th. The future home of Mr. and Mrs. Little will be in Birmingham. --- Mrs. S.C. Burpee of Roanoke announces the engagement of her daughter Irma Morgan Schuessler to Mr. John Ray Patillo of Atlanta, the wedding to take place in early February. --- DEPUTY SHERIFF SHOT The Leader regrets to note an unfortunate affair that occurred in Wedowee Friday night. So far as we can learn, Deputy Sheriff John M. Windom became involved with Meek Dobson over some trouble about an automobile and an arrest was made, and Mr. Windom was shot by Mr. Dobson. The former's right arm was shattered and it is feared he may lose it. Roy Dobson was also implicated in some way and both brothers were arrested and placed under a bond of $1000. each. --- AGED LADY DIES In Hogansville last Wednesday morning, Mrs. C.N. Williams died at the home of her daughter Mrs. J.W. Crenshaw. She was the mother of Mrs. W.C. Hunter of Roanoke, who was with her when the end came. The remains were brought to Fredonia and interred on Thursday. The deceased was 77 years of age and had lived at Fredonia about 60 years where she was highly esteemed. --- LOCAL News Mrs. Martha E. Holder broke her arm yesterday at the home of her daughter Mrs. C.H. Hearn. --- A.A. Cook was called to Lanett on Monday by the serious illness of his daughter Mrs. J.C. White, who is not expected to live. --- Sunday morning, Mr. Fulton Smith and Miss Cumi Reed were united in marriage at the residence of Geo. W. Stevens, Esq. --- Mrs. W.L. Lyon left Friday for her home at Thomasville, Ga., after a visit of several weeks to Mrs. J.T. Lyon. --- Nat Collier arrived last week from a tour of the far west, extending as far as Seattle. He will remain with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.Z. Collier for some weeks. --- Mr. Ed Brown of Talladega spent a few days with his daughter Mrs. W.F. Handley. --- W.C. Orr is seriously ill at his home in this place. --- Mrs. A.P. Hagins of Bowdon, Ga., is visiting her daughter Mrs. J.T. Striplin. --- BACON LEVEL News Mrs. C.L. Ussery died December 4th and was buried here the following day. Rev. W.H. Henry conducted the funeral services. --- Mrs. J.H. Phillips is visiting her sister Mrs. Rutland near State Line who is quite ill. --- LIME News Last Tuesday night this community was made to sorrow by the almost sudden death of Mr. Grover Bonner which occurred at his home near Rock Mills. --- NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, December 28, 1910 J. WADE HIGGINS DEAD The Leader regrets to note the untimely death of J. Wade Higgins which occurred last Thursday morning after a short illness at his home several miles south of Roanoke. He was a worthy member of one of the most respected families of this section and leaves a wife and one child. The funeral was conducted Friday by the deceased's pastor, Rev. F.H. Farrington. --- A CHRISTMAS WEDDING Mr. William E. Corley and Miss Maude Yates boarded the afternoon Central train for LaFayette on Christmas Day where they were soon made husband and wife by Rev. C.J. Burden. They returned in the evening and are now at home at the residence of the former's parents on Wedowee street. Mr. Corley has for years been in charge of Harper's Music and Jewelry store and is an upright, worthy gentleman. His bride is the eldest daughter of Rev. J.M. Yates and is one of the best young ladies. --- LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. J. Floyd Collins are in town today to attend the marriage of their brother Rev. C. Pursell to Miss West and are being cordially greeted by their many friends. --- Monday night, Nick Wright, an inoffensive old negro was set upon in his home and dangerously hurt by being beaten over the head. Already one negro has been arrested and charged with the outrage. About a year ago, Nick was nearly killed in the same manner. --- Mr. and Mrs. John D. Muldrew and children of Atlanta spent the first of the week with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Muldrew and family. --- John Morrow was cut in an affray by George Green at Lamar on Saturday afternoon but will recover. --- Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Young of Waycross, Ga. are spending Christmas with family here, as is their son W.A. Young. --- Mrs. Elias and sister of New Orleans are the guests of Mrs. George. --- Lon Shaffer, a negro well known about town, died Monday night of pneumonia. He had worked for B.O. Driver some 18 years and will be greatly missed. --- T.H. Russell of Morgan county arrived Thursday night to visit relatives and friends in this area. --- Mr. and Mrs. LeGrand Fairman returned to Atlanta yesterday after a visit to the latter's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Hooper. --- Last week, a parole was issued by Gov. Comer to Robert Clark of Randolph county who was convicted of murder in the second degree and has served eight years. --- Invitations have been issued by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Toombs West of Roanoke, Ala., announcing the approaching marriage of their daughter Miss Ida Bernice to Rev. Clare Purcell, the marriage to take place on Wednesday, Dec. 18th. --- BROUGHTON News (by G.W. Poore, correspondent) W.B. Nixon of Ft. Towson, Oklahoma is spending the holidays with relatives in this community, his old home. --- Mrs. Sarah Dabney and daughter-in-law Malinda Dabney recently returned to their home near Talladega after spending a few days with the former's sister, this writer's mother.
