Barton for killing his wife; acquitted Lon Brown for killing his father-in-law W.L. Clifton, white, plea of guilty and sentenced to twelve years Charlie Allums, a negro who killed his wife in Roanoke, sentenced to four years ----- DIED SUDDENLY SUNDAY; JASPER M. FINCHER Mrs. James A. Walls of this place, received the sad news that her father Mr. Jasper M. Fincher, had died suddenly at the dinner table that day at his home near Lamar. Mr. and Mrs. Walls left early Monday morning to attend the funeral which was held at Providence church. Mr. Fincher was 79 years of age and was one of the county's best citizens. ---- ELOPED TO ROANOKE Last Thursday evening George M. Wilkerson and Miss Jimmie Lee James of Fredonia hied themselves to Roanoke as the quickest way to surmount all objections to their plans for future happiness. The services of Rev. A.S. Brannan were secured and the ceremony was soon performed which ushered them into connubial bliss. The following day Mr. and Mrs. Wilkerson returned to their home in Fredonia. --- CORBIN News March 4th Mr. and Mrs. Walter Miles are the happy parents of a boy. --- E.S. Burns was called to Albertville last Thursday by the sudden death of his sister Mrs. Mary Jane Latimer. --- We have just learned that Mrs. Bettie Abbott received a phone message yesterday evening that her only brother Mr. Jap. Fincher died suddenly at his home near Lamar yesterday morning. He will be buried at Providence today. --- LOCAL News Wyatt Brown, a farmer living in the Mt. Olive community, was severely injured by his mule running away with him on the streets of Roanoke Saturday. --- Mrs. J.T. Carroll and son Joe went to Atlanta on Saturday to visit J.D. Carroll and family. --- Mrs. J.W. Pugh and little daughter left yesterday to spend two weeks with relatives at Flowery Branch, Georgia. --- WADLEY News Mrs. Marvin Hodge of Peavy is visiting the family of her father Mr. Tom Radney. --- BACON LEVEL News Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Knight of Lanett were called here last week to attend the funeral of J.B. Bishop, the latter's uncle. --- Mr. and Mrs. James M. Wallace of West Point came up to attend the burial of Mr. Bishop. --- ROCK MILLS News March 4th On Thursday, Mr. Sanford Yarbrough died after a weeks illness of paralysis. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G.M. Bynum on Friday. We deeply sympathize with the grief stricken ones for the deceased is the third member of this family that has passed in the past few months. --- Miss Lizzie Williams and Mr. Irvin Mapp went over to Mr. O'Neal's on Sunday and were married. --- NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, March 13, 1912 WADLEY News March 11th Will Hearn and family returned last week from New Mexico and will make their home in Wadley. We are very glad to have these good people back. --- Mrs. Rufus Thompson was called to Sikesville last week by the death of her father Captain Anderson Allen. --- Bunyan B. Brannon has gone to Pensacola, Florida and expects to move his family there by the first of April. --- Mrs. Jane Holloway who has been spending some time with her niece Mrs. J.P. Liles, returned to Milltown Monday. --- E.J. Barton, a good citizen of the Napoleon community, died Friday of paralysis. He was the father of O.D. Barton, recently tried and acquitted for murder and it is thought that the strain of this tragedy on his mind hastened his death. --- David Klein returned Friday from a visit to relatives in New York City. His reports his brother William as being no better from his illness and thinks there is no hope for his recovery. --- BACON LEVEL News Mrs. John Pitts has been quite sick the past week. --- NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, March 20, 1912 NAPOLEON News Mrs. Martina Harry of LaGrange, a sister of Mr. Barton who was recently deceased, is on a visit to relatives in this community. --- WADLEY News March 18th Born to Rev. and Mrs. C.C. Godbey last week, twin boys. They were named James McCoy and John Kilgo, after two Methodist bishops. --- LOCAL News At 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon in Lowell, Mr. J.C. White and Miss Alice Wade were married. Rev. B.F. Young officiated. --- Charles Smedley, a negro carpenter, fell off the frame-work of W.H. McMurray's projected residence on Saturday and was severely stunned and painfully injured. --- John T. Carroll has sold 200 acres of his bottom land farm to John A. Thompson of Stroud. --- Lee Carroll and family including Mrs. Castle moved to Atlanta yesterday. --- R.A. Wadsworth returned Monday from Columbus where he was called by the serious illness of his sister Mrs. Ida Crouch. --- NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, March 27, 1912 ROCK MILLS News Monday morning, Grady Harper, son of L.A. Harper, caught fire while standing near the grate at Yates, Bonner & Co.'s store and was badly burned and would have burned to death had it not been for E.B. Hearn who saw him and quickly jerked off his coat and overcoat and wrapped him in them, thus putting out the flames. --- Last Tuesday, MIss Willie Kirby and Mr. Ernest Hollis went down to Evansville and were married. --- WILLIAM KLEIN DIES IN NEW YORK Thursday morning, David Klein received a telegram announcing the death of his brother William Klein which occurred the night before in New York. The former left on the next train for that city. The deceased had been in failing health for many months. He came to Roanoke in the days of its early growth and built up a prosperous business. Meanwhile he had made many friends in town and country, who regret his death. --- LOCAL News Wm. R. Holder arrived from Birmingham yesterday to remain several months with home folks before leaving for Africa as a missionary. --- A.J.
