If he had lived one day longer he would have been 85 years old. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Randolph County, Alabama. Some fifty years ago he cast his lot with the pepple of this state and since that time lived a peaceable citizen, giving his time to the active pursuits of life until a few years prior to his death. By his honest dealings and business qualifications he accumulated some of this world's goods, which he used in raising a family with credit to himself and the community where they now live. Dr. Vineyard was a physician and as such alleviated the pain of the sick, both night and day, for forty years, in but few instances, rarely refusing to answer when called upon by suffering humanity. He was also an ordained minister of the Gospel in the Methodist church. As a minister he spent a large portion of his time preaching the Gospel to the unsaved, winning many through christ. Doubtless in the resurrection day many will come forth justified through christ as a result of his preaching. Several years ago he joined the Masonic fraternity. Since that time as a Mason he conformed to all its rules and regulations, living a live that was an honor to himself and the lodge of which he was a member. Ever willing to help a brother that fell by the way, or one that he met in needy circumstances, he really lived a life that should be imitated by every Mason in his fidelity to the craft. Therefore, be it resolved by Rock Mills Lodge No. 353, A.F. and A.M. that in the death of Bro. J.L. Vineyard, the lodge lost one that was ever true to the trust reposed in him. Not only a faithful brother, but a good man and a reputable citizen, that we mourn his loss and that we will ever cherish his memory in our hearts. Resolved further that these resolutions be published in the Roanoke Leader and spread upon the minutes of the lodge. H.H. Pitts T.J. Head F.W. DONIE MCMANUS BURNED TO DEATH Dec. 16th The most serious thing that has occurred in this community happened Monday. Mrs. Donie McManus was alone in her room and in some way her clothing caught fire. She ran out on the front porch and called to her daughter Miss Ila who was a few steps away. Miss Ila ran to her mother and tried to put out the fire and in doing so burned her own hands very severely but could not save her mother. Mrs. McManus died Monday night. Miss Done, as she was familiarly called, was a good woman. I think it can be truly said of her that all who knew her loved her.
