Manley, leaving a husband, two small children, her father and mother, several brothers and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. --- LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. Phineas Crouch of Birmingham visited in Roanoke last week. --- Mrs. G.M. Bynum and children of Lauderdale county arrived Friday to spend some time with the former's parents at Burns' Mill. --- S.J. Gladney returned Saturday to his new home in Winston County but will be here again Nov. 22nd to sell his farm. --- H.L. Zobel was in town Saturday, coming to bring his four week old motherless babe which will be kindly cared for by Miss Matilda Zobel. --- Miss Pearl Treadwell of LaFayette was in Roanoke Monday, hastening to Wadley to attend Mrs. H.D. Pearson in her critical illness. --- WEDOWEE News Nov. 10th Mrs. Volley Perry has been quite sick. --- Ira Perry who is attending school at Boaz, visited his family here last week. --- WADLEY News Nov. 10th Mrs. Robert McCrae of LaFayette was called to Wadley by the serious illness of her sister Mrs. H.D. Pearson. --- Miss Pattie Treadwell went to Dickert to be at the wedding of Miss Bellena Hodges and Mr. Lee Jones, which occurred Sunday morning at ten o'clock. --- We regret to note that Mrs. H.D. Pearson is still dangerously ill. --- R.W. Smith and wife have gone to Woodbury, Ga., which will be their future home. Mr. Smith has been Depot agent in Wadley for about a year. H.L. McBride will take his place. --- WEHADKEE news Nov. 10th Charlie Young and Miss Jane Brown went to Franklin, Ga., last Sunday where they were united in marriage. --- W.V. Pirkle of Cleburne county has been elected principal of the Omaha school and has moved his family there. --- LIME News Nov. 10th Noah Caswell moved his family here from Loraine, Texas last week. --- Dowe Echols is visiting his sister Mrs. N.D. Shepherd. --- Mrs. R.L. Bryan and daughter Margurete arrived from Birmingham today to spend some time with Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Pitts. --- Burt Shepherd has moved his family to Langdale. --- BACON LEVEL News Nov. 10th Mrs. Eveline Holder and family of Wedowee returned home yesterday after a short stay with her parents Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Ussery. --- W.M. Albright continues quite feeble. --- J.A. Crouch of Texas, Georgia is visiting in this community. --- LEVEL Road News Nov. 10th A surprise marriage was that of Miss Mamie Turk to Mr. Lloyd Johnson last Friday night. --- Mr. Awbrey Hester and Miss Minnie Florence were united in marriage today. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, November 19, 1913 PUBLIC SALE On Saturday, Nov. 29th, 1913, at 10 o'clock we will sell to the highest bidder on the premises of G.W. Moore, deceased, all the lands of the said G.W. Moore, deceased, containing 229 acres and located four miles north of Wedowee. Said land will be sold in four separate parts. Center school house is located on the above land. Public road runs through the place. Heirs of G.W. Moore ---- LOCAL News Mr. Wm. Z. East has been appointed postmaster at Roanoke. --- Mrs. F.M. Wever is happy in having as her guests her mother Mrs. W.H. McLeod and daughter Miss Seckinger, of Savannah. The journey was made most pleasantly in a touring car. --- MRS. H. D. PEARSON DIED IN WADLEY Wadley, Nov. 17th Mrs. H.D. Pearson died last Thursday morning after an illness of three weeks. Mrs. Pearson was one of Wadley's most beautiful christian characters. Not only her immediate family and friends sustain a great loss but every church and Sunday school in Wadley will miss her. She was president of the Home Missionary Society at this place. Mrs. Pearson leaves a husband and four children and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her departure. We offer to them our most heartfelt sympathy. Among those who attended the funeral of Mrs. Pearson were Mr. and Mrs. McRea, Mr. and Mrs. Barnes of LaFayette, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Waits of Waverly, Mr. Williamson of Opelika, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Radney of Roanoke and a host of others. ---- FUNERAL OF MRS. ADOLPHUS YATES HELD SATURDAY The remains of Mrs. Adolphus Yates were brought in Saturday on the one o'clock train from Birmingham, where she died Friday in St. Vincent Hospital. Mrs. Yates had lived in Wadley for three years. She was an invalid several years and bore her suffering very patiently. We offer to the husband and little son our sympathy, and point them to the God she served. --- WADLEY News Nov. 17th Mr. and Mrs. S.J. Gay of Lineville were called here yesterday by the serious illness of the latter's mother Mrs. Mollie Kilgore. --- ABANDA News Nov. 17th Mrs. J.M. Melton continues in a very dangerous condition. --- CAPT. J.S. BAKER DEAD Sunday, Capt. A.J. Driver, Messrs. R.R. Nichols, J.C. Wright and J.W. Radney motored to West Point to attend the funeral of Capt. Jas. S. Baker which was held at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock. The deceased was an active member of the church and a prominent pioneer citizen of West Point. A large concourse was present to pay respect to his memory. A wagon load of floral offerings was a feature of the sad procession that accompanied the remains of the beloved citizen to their final rest. --- LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. Newton Williams of Glenn, Georgia were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Tatum on Sunday. --- Mrs. Sarah Gauntt is in quite feeble health at the home of her daughter Mrs. P.A. Hurst. --- J.T. Pool and family are spending some days with the former's mother in Roanoke. Mr. Pool is recuperating from a long spell of the fever. --- Mrs. J.W. Hart and Mrs. H.A. Hughes of Florala have been spending some days past with relatives in Roanoke. --- Emil Zobel is out again after an illness of the grippe of three weeks. --- Ernest A. Zobel was operated on for appendicitis in LaFayette on Saturday. Last reports from him were favorable for his recovery. --- M.P. Pittman and grandson Pittman Wood returned Monday from a visit to the former's daughter at Atlanta. --- DEATH OF MRS. ANDREWS Mrs. W.T. Andrews, aged 75 years, died yesterday afternoon about 1 o'clock at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. H.N. Little, 4503 Fifth Ave. South. The deceased is survived by her husband the Rev. W.T. Andrews, a retired pastor, and five sons and one daughter. The sons are: J.D. Andrews of Nashville, Tenn.; Milton Andrews of Birmingham; Rev. J.B. Andrews of Arkansas; Rev. W.B. Andrews of Waco, Tex.; and Dr. Charles P. Andrews of Fort Worth, Texas. The daughter is Mrs. H.N. Little of this city. The funeral services will be conducted from the Avondale Methodist church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will follow in ELmwood cemetery. The Birmingham Age-Herald, the 17th. Mrs. Andrews formerly lived in Roanoke as the wife of the Methodist pastor in 1905. She was a good woman, cheerful even amidst the most trying afflictions. The deceased was a niece of the late Rev. John B. Stevenson. L.M. Stevenson of this place attended the funeral in Birmingham yesterday. --- BACON LEVEL News Nov. 17th Mrs. Pounds of North Georgia is spending a while with her daughter Mrs. J.A. Wilson. --- Mrs. Bob Bradshaw and daughter Miss Murla spent Sunday with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gamble near Glenn, Ga. --- WEDOWEE News Nov. 17th Mrs. Overton is ill with the fever. --- NON-RESIDENT'S NOTICE, PROOF OF WILL State of Alabama, Randolph County Probate Court In the matter of the Last Will and Testament of John D. Phillips and filed in this court his petition together with the paper purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of John D. Phillips, deceased, which said instrument appears to be attested by C.L. Hudson and R.D. Adamson of Randolph County, Ala., and who are alleged to have signed the same as subscribing witnesses thereunto at the date of said instrument. And it appearing to the court from said petition that said petitioner is also named in the instrument as the Executor and is an heir- at- law of said decedent, it is therefore ordered by the court the 8th day of December 1913 is hereby appointed a day to hear said petition, and all persons interested can appear and contest said petition if they think proper. She has a daughter Mrs. C.A. Jordan living here, to mourn her loss. --- Mrs. K.N. Matthews arrived Saturday from Decatur to spend several days with her parents Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Prescott. --- W.W.L. Stone returned from Tennessese Saturday where he spent a week looking for house, as he has sold his farm near here to Nixon Lucas. --- Miss Jessie Knight and Raymond McVay from near Cragford, boarded the train here Sunday to go to LaGrange to be married. --- PROHIBITION LAW VIOLATORS FINED W.C. Cato and J.J. Cato were arraigned before the Mayor on Saturday on a charge of violating the prohibition laws. Both plead guilty and were fined $50. and given a three months sentence which was suspended on good behavior. The liquor taken was destroyed. --- WADLEY News Nov. 24th The family of Rev. C.C. Godbey have left for their new home in Goodwater. We regret to lose these good people but are glad to have Bro. Hawkins with us and look forward to a great year with him. He will come to Wadley the first of this week. --- Mrs. Mary McGill is able to be up after a long illness. --- BROUGHTON News Nov. 24th R.L. Williams and family will leave in a few days for their new home in north Alabama. --- Mrs. Lena Shearer is quite sick. --- LOCAL News We regret to note that Mrs. A.E. Tucker is quite sick. --- Rev. and Mrs. J.S. Robertson and baby leave today for their new home in Huntsville. The children went Monday as far as Birmingham to visit relatives. --- Rev. James P. Lancaster and family, who refuged last month from Mexico where Mr. Lancaster was stationed by his church, spent a few days recently with relatives near Roanoke. They were accompanied by Mrs. Lancaster's sister Miss Amy Whipple who has been doing missionary work in Cuba. --- ABANDA News Nov. 24th W.M. Melton ws called home Friday evening on account of the serious illness of his mother. --- WEHADKEE News Nov. 24th Mrs. T.J. Camp has been very sick the past week. --- The population of our community is still increasing. T.J.
