Hawkins. --- Rev. and Mrs. V.H. Hawkins have named their new little boy V.H. Jr. --- WEDOWEE News June 1st Mrs. Ada Aderholt of Waco, Ga., has returned home after spending several weeks with her father Dr. J.R. Hood. --- MALONE News June 1st Mr. Jim Knight was recently called to the bedside of his sister who is quite ill in Georgia. --- LOCAL News F.P. Nichols was called to LaFayette Tuesday to assist in the interment of Mrs. McNamee, an aged and excellent citizen of that town and also the interment of her grandson, Mr. Alexander. --- NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, June 10, 1914 LOCAL News E. M. Moore went to Atlanta yesterday to meet his mother who is coming from South Carolina to spend some time with him. --- Yesterday afternoon, Mr. D.J. Padgett went to Lineville where he will claim as his bride one of Lineville's lovely young ladies in the person of Miss Lamittis Leftwich. The ceremony will occur at 10:30 this morning at the home of the bride's father J.H. Leftwich and will be performed by Rev. C.N. James, pastor of the Lineville Baptist church. Mr. and Mrs. Padgett will arrive in Roanoke this afternoon and will repair to the residence of Mrs. I.G. Hill where they will have rooms. Mr. Padgett is one of Roanoke's worthy young men and is engaged in the insurance business. He is a son of Mr. J.D. Padgett of Cragford. He will have the congratulations of friends upon his good fortune and his bride will be heartily welcomed to Roanoke. ---- Miss Cecile Brawley of Greenville, S.C. is the guest of her cousin Miss Mattie Jeff Belcher. --- Among those reported as having the fever are Dr. W.G. Floyd Jr., Pattilo Cook and Shaffer Liles. The former is seriously ill with typhoid. --- We are sorry to note that Mrs. Ambrose is quite ill this week. --- Miss Celia Cumbee spent the past week with her cousin Miss Mary Vinson. --- Miss Bonnie Williams who is suffering with rheumatism, left last Thursday for a stay at Hot Springs for several weeks. --- Dr. W.H. Moon of Goodwater and his brother Mr. John Moon of Lineville were welcome guests of Roanoke on Memorial Day and greatly enjoyed the occasion. The former was a war comrade of Mr. M.P. Pittman. --- Mrs. J.H. Ashmore arrived Saturday from West Point enroute to visit her father W.C. Norred who is ill at his home near Rock Stand. --- Another trained nurse arrived Tuesday to assist at the bedside of young William Wright who is ill with typhoid fever. --- The babe of Mr. and Mrs. Larkin Sikes died Monday near Noon Day. --- ROCK MILLS News June 9th Mr. Henry Laws of Samson, Ala., is here visiting his children. --- Monday, Mr. Ernest Hollis died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hollis. Especially sad was the death of this young man coming so quickly. He was apparently in the best of health and on going home Sunday afternoon he told his mother that his head pained him and to prepare a place for him to lie down for he had come home to die. From that moment he lapsed into unconsciousness and at midnight Sunday his spirit drifted out into the eternities. Followed by a crowd of friends and relatives his remains were carried to Wehadkee cemetery and laid to rest with a very impressive ceremony by the Woodmen. Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. J.F. Rudisill. --- WADLEY News June 8th Dr. and Mrs. S. J. Gay are the guests of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Gay. --- Mrs. Young Ponder spent the weekend with her sister Mrs. Denney at Truett. --- Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Treadwell announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Sue Pearl to Mr. George Edgar Hendon of Jasper, Ala., the date to be announced later. --- LEVEL ROAD News June 8th Mrs. Mary Moore died last Tuesday after a long ilness and was buried at Macedonia on Wednesday. --- Mrs. Etta Langley and daughter Miss Bertha are spending this week with the former's daughter Mrs. Hester in Roanoke. --- J.A. Dollar who has been sick for three weeks is better at this writing. --- WEHADKEE News June 8th Jim Cranford is critically ill at his home near High Shoals. --- NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, June 17, 1914 DEATH CLAIMS W.G. FLOYD JR.; Young Man is Victim of Typhoid Fever One more Death has demonstrated that he is no respector of youth and strength, of happy homes and bright prospects. He has laid ahold of one of our strongest young men, blighting hopes and darkening homes. Dr. W.G. Floyd Jr. passed away Monday morning at the home of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. W.G. Floyd Sr. in this place. He had been ill about ten days with typhoid fever. Despite the constant attention of the family, nurses and physicians, it was impossible to check the disease. The deceased was 29 years of age and was a member of the Baptist church and was a 32nd degree Mason. He recently spent three years in Colorado for his health, returning to Roanoke last Christmas apparently restored. Here he began the practice of dentistry and was building up a nice practice when the untimely summons came. A large congregation assembled at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon, where touching funeral services were conducted, participated in by Revs. J.W. Rucker and E.M. Glenn and the Masonic fraternity. Many floral designs attested the tender esteem of the friends of the deceased and of the family. ---- MRS. ALFRED WEST DEAD The remains of Mrs. Alfred West who died last week at her home at Mt. Selma, Texas, were brought to Wedowee and interred Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. West were former residents of Randolph, the deceased being a Miss Dobson originally. Mr. West was in Roanoke Monday, returning to his home in Texas. --- WADLEY News June 15th Miss Annice McGill who has been ill with the fever for several weeks, is reported to be in a dangerous condition. --- Mrs. J.T. Hodge has as her guest, her sister, Mrs. J.S. Thompson of Dillon, S.C. --- Mr. Charlie Noell of Scott's Station and Miss Kate Perry of Almond community, were married at Almond on Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Noel left on the train Sunday for Scott's Station where they will make their home. --- WEDOWEE News June 16th Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Northern and little son Fred of Ashland spent from Saturday till Monday in Wedowee visiting the latter's sister Mrs. S.J. Parker. --- Loyd Bailey died at his father's home Saturday morning after suffering much with tuberculosis. --- DR. L.M. TATUM DEAD The funeral of Dr. L.M. Tatum was conducted at Milltown Sunday. The deceased was connected with the Abanda Drug company and was a prominent and popular citizen of Abanda. He was young and the picture of health when diseased fastened upon him some months ago. --- LOCAL News The many friends of Hon. O.A. Moore deeply sympathize with him in the death of his mother Mrs. E.A. Moore last week at her home in Atlanta. She had reached the ripe old age of 85 years. The Franklin News and Banner. --- Mrs. J.M. Pearson, an aged and beloved lady, and mother of Hiram D. Pearson of Wadley, died near that place Monday night. --- Mrs. H. Ellis Powell will return to her home in Opelika Friday after a visit to her mother Mrs. Medora L. Hoke on Rock Mills street. --- Mr. C.E. Garner of Dallas, Georgia has a position with N.S. Daugherty. Mr. Garner has had 17 years experience in repairing jewelry, watches, clocks, etc. --- The remains of Miss Caroline Enloe, who died in a sanitarium in Tuscaloosa, were brought through Roanoke last week enroute to Wedowee where interment was made Friday, after services conducted by Rev. A.S. Brannah. The deceased was a sister of Mr. H. Enloe of this city. --- Joe Harris of Bowdon, Ga., has accepted a position in Handley's tailor shop. --- A.P. Travis and G.L. Morris of Carrollton, Ga., have come to Roanoke to locate. --- Ira Clary is here from Columbus for the purpose of setting up a monument over the grave of the late Mr. David Manley. --- Mrs. Annie Robertson Swanson and child of Danville, La., are visiting relatives in Roanoke and LaFayette. --- For Rent or Sale - - 6 room house. Apply to Mrs. Callie Lowe in Buffalo, Ala., Rt. 2. --- Mrs. B.C. Taylor arrived Saturday from Birmingham to spend a month with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Hester. --- Mr. A.P. Hunt, a venerable citizen of Daviston, and father of Rev. G.D. Hunt, died yesterday morning. --- Dr. and Mrs. John T. Floyd of Atlanta were called to Roanoke last week to minister to their brother in his fatal illness. --- Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Bagley were called here from Columbus Monday by the death of the latter's brother Dr. W.G.Floyd Jr. --- Mrs. LeGrand Fairman came Friday to spend the summer with the family of Dr. Hooper. --- Miss Mattie Frank Davis of Fredonia arrived yesterday to visit her aunt, Mrs. J.D. Myhand. --- Mrs. E.C. Arnett of LaGrange and Mrs. Ware Awbrey of Cragford, visited the family of their father Mr. W.N. Gladney several days recently. --- Mr. and Mrs. R.O. English of Americus, Ga. are visiting the families of J.T. Fuller and A.M. Clemmons. --- The many friends of J. Robert Simms (Bob as he is known to all in this section), will regret to learn of his illness at the home of J.C. Williams on 10th street. The Opelika News, the 16th. --- W.O. Middlebrooks of Texas, Georgia and Miss Jessie Hill of Rock Mills, were married Sunday. --- MISS SATTERWHITE TO BE BRIDE The following invitation was issued to friends last Thursday: Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Elijah Satterwhite request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Eunice to Mr. Henry Armstrong Davison on Thursday evening, June 25th at half after six o'clock, First Methodist Church, Roanoke, Alabama. ------ WEHADKEE News June 15th The little three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Huey Crouch died Friday night after a short illness. --- J.J. Cranford died last Tuedsay morning after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted at Springfield on Wednesday. The deceased was about thirty years old and leaves a wife and four children. --- Over in Heard county Friday afternoon, a boiler exploded at a threshing machine, killing a man named Powers, his two sons and little grandson. Two others were seriously wounded. --- CORBIN News June 15th There has been considerable sickness in this section. There were three burials near this place in eight days. Sunday, the 7th inst., Mrs. Shaw, one of the best women it has been our pleasure to know, was buried at Rocky Branch. Monday, the 8th, Mr. and Mrs. Larkin Sikes buried their baby at Liberty Grove, and yesterday, Loyd Bailey, whom we considered an excellent young man, was buried at Haywood. Coleman of Roanoke is visiting her mother Mrs. Mollie Bass. --- MONUMENT UNVEILED Quite a company of Woodman and others braved the excessive heat Sunday afternoon and attended the unveiling and decorating ceremony at the grave of Mr. E.W. Hill, deceased in Cedarwood cemetery. In addition to the impressive ritual service of the order, Dr. J.P. Liles delivered a short oration and Mrs. Ben Handley gave a reading. --- CORBIN News June 22nd Mr. Bert Benefield and Miss Bertha Johnson went over the Georgia line yesterday and got married. --- WADLEY News June 22nd Mr. Walker Pearson who was called here by the death of his mother Mrs. J.M. Pearson, has returned to his home in Tifton, Georgia. --- BACON LEVEL News June 22nd We are sorry to note that Miss Martha Sweet continues quite feeble. --- LOCAL News Mrs. Carrie Moore Cook of LaGrange arrived yesterday to be the guest of Miss Martha Pittman. --- A.M. Awbrey went to New Decatur Friday to accompany his daughter Mrs. Marion Bingham and child to Roanoke where they will spend some time. --- Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Mickle have returned from a three weeks visit to their son at Texas, Georgia. --- Mrs. H.E. Berkstesser and children of Dadeville are expected to arrive tomorrow to visit the former's sister, Mrs. L.M. Stevenson. --- Miss Marie Harper is ill with the slow fever. --- Mrs. W.F. Redmond is seriously ill with typhoid fever. --- Mrs. Collie Walker, a highly esteemed resident of Lowell, died Sunday and was buried at Mt.
