Mathews, five miles south of Lineville, Wednesday morning and her remains were interred in the Lineville cemetery Thursday morning. The deceased was born in South Carolina and at the time of her death was 87 years, 2 months and 3 days old. She had lived in this county 13 years and was a consistent member of the Shiloh Baptist church. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.L. Ingram. She is survived by two sons, F.L. Mathews of Ashland and H.T. Mathews of Roanoke. The Lineville Headlight ---- STANDING ROCK News Oct. 4th Mr. and Mrs. Crockett were here from Glenn last week to attend the bedside of Mr. W.J. Johnson who has been critically ill. --- Clifton Farrar left yesterday to enter school at Camp Hill. --- C.E. Hines and family are motoring in a new Studebaker car he purchased recently. --- CARD OF THANKS Words are made inadquate to express our thanks and appreciation to the good people for their kindness during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father, especially to Dr. Liles. May God bless and reward you all. Mrs. A.P. Owens and children, Peavy, Ala. --- LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Holderfield of Stroud and Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Neely and six week old daughter Lucile, spent Sunday with their mother Mrs. W.A. Widner. --- Mrs. J.J. Slappey was operated on in Atlanta one week ago and is reported as making progress toward recovery. She was a victim of appendicitis. --- Mrs. Belt White arrived Saturday to make Roanoke her headquarters for the remainder of the year, at least. Her son Charles has already entered school here. Mr. White is traveling in the interest of the Orphanage and the Old People's Home and other benevolent institutions of his church located in Atlanta. He will be in Roanoke from time to time, all of which will be pleasing news to many of our readers. --- Mrs. Herbert Striplin and children went Monday to visit the former's mother Mrs. J.F. Pittman who is quite ill. --- Mrs. Josie Dean of Wedowee is visiting her daughter Mrs. J.M. Peavy. --- A personal item of interest was the arrival Saturday of twin girls at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben M. Handley. They were given the names of their grandmothers, Rosa and Sarah. This home is now blessed with three baby girls, all under twelve months of age. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, October 13, 1915 WEDOWEE News Oct. 11th Mr. Joel Mooty of Franklin, Ga., spent a part of the week with his daughter Mrs. Enloe and also visited his brother-in-law R.T. West at Berwick. --- Court today heard the preliminary trial of Jacob Harris, colored, for killing Wes Stephens, colored, in a row Saturday a week ago. No bail was allowed. Anderson Wilson who was charged an an accessory was found not guilty. --- ROCK MILLS News Oct. 11th Mrs. J.S. Yates has been confined to her room several days from thunderwood poisoning. --- BACON LEVEL News Oct. 11th Mrs. J.C. Mitchell of Munford is spending a while with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Borders. --- Alex Lane of Dadeville has been spending some time with relatives here. --- "Uncle" Billie Albright is quite ill. --- A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Holliday on the 7th inst. --- LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. Kyle and baby and Will Ryan returned Thursday from Trenton, S.C. where they were called by the death of the venerable mother of Mrs. Kyle and Mr. Ryan. In this loss they have the symapthy of all their friends. --- Mrs. Olin Ward, Mrs. Kittle Lee Ward, Mrs. McBurnett and son of Wedowee and Mrs. Spinks of Roanoke, Ala., have been visiting their aunt, Mrs. N.B. McPherson. The West Point News --- Lamar Mullendore has been confined at home for a week or so by an attack of the fever but is improving at this writing. --- M.B. Lamar arrived in Roanoke last week and is now on duty at the Hotel Lamar. He is a son of the proprietor, C.R. Lamar. --- Mrs. Ben Redmon and little son Fred will leave at noon today for Birmingham to visit the fair and spend a few days with Mrs. Redmon's brother, W.S. Lane. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, October 20, 1915 MR. PERRY BROWN DEAD Mr. Perry Brown, a well known and esteemed citizen of the Double Head section of Chambers County, died Saturday and was buried Sunday at Antioch, after funeral services conducted by the pastor, Rev. G.D. Hunt. Many friends and relatives mourn his loss. --- LOCAL News Robert Benton, a 15 year old negro boy accused as an accomplice in the murder of Willie Tucker at Ensley about two years ago, was given 10 years in the state prison yesterday afternoon on an agreement verdict. The Birmingham Age Herald, the 19th. --- Mr. G.W. Ellington visited his daughter Mrs. W.Z. East last week. --- NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, October 27, 1915 STANDING ROCK News Oct. 25th The estate of the deceased Mr. H.A. Strickland will be sold to the highest bidder here Wednesday. --- Zachry Farrar who was operated on for appendicitis a month was ago, was reported as not doing so well yesterday. --- Mrs. Mary King and children Tom and Margaret of New York are visiting the former's sister Mrs. Sanders. --- A happy event will take place this afternoon at the home of Judge and Mrs. J.J. Robinson Jr. Miss Louise, one of the charming daughters of that home will be married to Mr. William Blake Nichols Jr. The ceremony will be performed by Dr. W.C. Bledsoe. An extended account of the wedding will appear in our next issue. The LaFayette Sun ---- J.B. Edwards, former sheriff of Talladega county, but now a deputy revenue collector, is spending the week in this territory. He succeeds Robert Yarbrough whose time has expired. --- Mrs. Wilbur Bradshaw died in Opelika Saturday, leaving a husband and one child. She had a number of relatives and friends in Roanoke who are pained to learn of her death. --- NOTICE OF PETITION TO SELL LANDS TO DIVIDE State of Alabama, Randolph County Probate Court October 19, 1915 In the matter of the petition of C.E. Webb vs. Mary Webb Harry, et. als, to sell land for division among joint owners. Notice to: Mary Webb Harry who resides in LaGrange, Georgia Grace Webb who resides in LaGrange, Georgia Fred Webb who resides in LaGrange, Georgia Paul Webb who resides in LaGrange, Georgia Whereas, C.E. Webb, joint owner of certain lands described in said petition, has filed his petition in writing under oath in said court for an order to sell certain lands belonging to said joint owners, described in said petition, for making an equitable division upon the ground that the same cannot be equitably divided among the said joint owners, and C.E. Webb, a joint owner, desires division, and the 22nd day of November 1915 has been appointed for the hearing of said petition.
