The first was that of Mrs. Millard F. Ussery, which occurred Friday morning last at the home of her brother Mr. J.J. Awbrey, this city, where she was taken some weeks ago, returning from South Carolina, being unable to complete the journey to her home in Wedowee. Her stay in South Carolina under treatment of a specialist failed to benefit her and the fatal ending of her long illness was not a surprise to her loved ones, though a grievious loss. This good woman leaves a husband and several children besides her brothers, Messrs. A.M. and J.J. Awbrey of this place, and many other relatives. The remains were carried to Wedowee Saturday, accompanied by a number of relatives and friends, and funeral services were held at that place, attended by a large congregation. Rev. Mr. Hammett, the pastor, was in charge of the services. The pastors of the Roanoke Baptist and Methodist churches were present and invited to take part in the obsequies. The deceased was held in sincere esteem by those who knew her. Saturday, Mr. Azmon Wilson, a brother of W.L. Wilson of Roanoke, died at his late home a few miles east of town after a long and trying illness, leaving a wife and three children. The remains were interred Sunday afternoon in the family burying ground near Rock Mills, the services of the occasion being conducted by Rev. J.W. Rucker. As stated in the Leader last week, Mr. J.J. Ragland was taken to Atlanta for an operation upon the skull to relieve a dangerous pressure resulting from an old wound. The operation was performed Thursday but death overtook the unfortunate man Saturday evening. His remains were brought to Roanoke, his late home, Monday afternoon and were met by the Red Men and others. Tuesday at 2:30 the funeral services were held at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. R.E. Tyler. At the cemetery the Order of Red Men were in charge. Mr. Ragland had many friends throughout this section. EAST FROM COOLIDGE, TEXAS To the Roanoke Leader, I kindly ask your permission through your highly appreciated paper to thank the friend or relative for his kindness in sending me the Leader. I was raised in Randolph county and love to read the news and note the happenings. I have been away thirty-six years but my friends and relatives are not forgotten. I feel almost like I was a native of Texas. I am sitting in my office this morning buying cotton and watching the Mexicans dig a trench to lay the pipe for our water works, in our little town, where a few years ago I used to chase the Jack rabbits and wolves. It has been very dry fall and winter. Fall oats are sorry but it looks like we will have rain soon and we have time for spring oats and other feed crops. But the farmers are going to plant a large acreage of cotton as that is our money crop. T.E. East, Coolidge, Texas ---- LOCAL News The following relatives of the late Mr. J.J.
