White James Moorman Jethro Johnson Andrew Crosson Emmett Carroll Robt. S. Green The following colored men left for Fort Dodge, Iowa: Jim Davis Huffman Noah Bailey Chrlie Mack Henson Emory Williams Seth A. Stitt ----- LOCAL News Thomas Neuton Ward, young son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Ward, was buried at Mt. Zion Monday. Rev. B.F. Young conducted the services. --- Mrs. Mariah Moon of this city, aged 81 years, was given the first prize on her lace work at the fair recently held in Columbus, Ga. The Leader congratulates Mrs. Moon upon this rare honor. --- At a negro party near Bacon Level on Saturday night, a general row ensued. As a result, Dash Scales, Ernest Pool, Lon Douglass and Howard Clark are in jail, while Cicero Green and John B. Blake are dead, and a son of Green is perhaps fatally wounded. ---- Pat Lane is seriously ill with the fever at the home of his brother Walter. --- Mrs. J.W. Stewart was in Roanoke Monday night, returning from Atlanta, where she attended Friday the funeral of her sister Mrs. Wesley H. Stewart who had been in declining health for many months. Her many friends in this section will regret to learn of her demise. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, November 14, 1917 DEATH OF MRS. OWENS Mrs. Bob Owens died Friday at the home of Mr. Owens' parents near Mt. Carmel, leaving a young babe. The remains were shipped Saturday to the home of the deceased and her husband in Midland, Texas, the latter accompanying the body. The couple had recently come out here on a visit. The infant remains with its grandparents. ---- LOCAL News Toombs Brannan was in town Sunday and Monday, returning to LaGrange to resume his position, having been excused from Army service. --- P.B. Tatum, prominent citizen of Abanda, who has been in feeble health for some time, will leave this week for Panama City, Florida to spend the winter. --- Fletcher Jordan is leaving Friday for Okemah, Oklahoma where he goes to accept a position. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, November 21, 1917 AGED COUPLE GETS MARRIED At Springfield last Thursday at 2 o'clock, Esq. I.W. Lewis spoke the words that united in nuptial bonds Mr. Francis M. Foster and Mrs. Tomlin, mother of Mr. D.L. Tomlin. Both parties are well known and esteemed people. Mr. Foster is 78 years of age and Mrs. Foster is 72. This is the third matrimonial venture for the groom and the second for the bride. ---- LOCAL News R.W. Grifffin was in Opelika Sunday and Monday, called by the death in Montgomery Saturday night of his kinsman, Jos. B. Summers. The interment was in Opelika on Monday. --- John M. Tucker arrived in Roanoke Friday, having received a pardon, after having served all but one month of his sentence. --- Messrs. T.B. and W.W. Wood were in Sparta, Georgia on Sunday and Monday, where they were called to attend the funeral of their kinsman, Rev. J.S.L. Sappington. --- Mrs. Joe Haley of Atlanta and Mrs. Wilson Striplin of Oklahoma are the guests of the family of Mr. S.H. Striplin. --- Rev. B.T. Among those ordered to leave Monday for Camp Gordon are: M.D. Boulware Emmet Muldrew Charlie Adcock Arthur Brannah ---- Mr. John K. Tenant is quite ill with pneumonia at his home near Wedowee. --- MARRIED IN ATLANTA Saturday night, Miss Thelma Shanks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. T. Shanks, this city, was married in Atlanta to Mr. E.C. Rork, formerly of Roanoke, but now a soldier of Uncle Sam, with the rank of Corporal. Shortly after the ceremony, Mr. Rork went back to his post of duty at Camp Wheeler, while his bride returned to Roanoke, resuming her position with the W.H. Mann wholesale grocery company. ---- ADMINISTRATOR'S NOTICE, FINAL SETTLEMENT State of Alabama, Randolph County Probate Court November 21, 1917 In the matter of the estate of Mrs. T.J. Tidwell and the estate of R.W. Tidwell, deceased Notice to: Sallie Dewberry who resides in the State of Tennessee, post office address unknown Clementine Hodge who resides in the State of Georgia, post office LaGrange This day came B.M.P. Stone, administrator of the estates of said deceased, and filed his accounts, vouchers, written evidence, and statement under oath for final settlement of said administrations. Whereupon it is ordered that the 22nd day of December 1917 be appointed a day on which to make such settlements, at which time all persons interested can appear and contest same if they think proper. Nichols went to Dadeville this morning to accompany the remains of the two children of Mr. and Mrs. Z.J. Wright that were buried here some years ago. The remains will be reinterred at Dadeville. ---- John Seymour, son of the late Hooper Seymour, died of measles at Camp Gordon recently. ---- There is scarlet fever among the children of Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Taylor. The home has been quarantined. --- Mrs. J.P. Harris was operated on for appendicitis last Thursday.
