Piper died Monday evening at her home in north Chambers county and the remains were interred at Bethel church at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. A large congregation was present to attest their appreciation of this good woman, who was a member of the Methodist church at Five Points. The services were in charge of Rev. E.B. Redus, the pastor. Mr. M.A. Key also made a talk. The deceased was 64 years of age. She was the mother of Dr. Piper of Five Points and a sister of Mrs. J.D. Myhand this city. Mr. Richard Head died Monday and the remains were interred at Wehadkee burying ground on Tuesday. He was an old and respected citizen and the father of Mr. Thos. L. Head of this place. ---- LOCAL News Twin girls were born yesterday afternoon to Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Patterson. One of the babes died during the night and the remains will be interred at Mt. Pisgah this morning. The condition of Mrs. Patterson is considered serious. --- FAMILY REUNION AT THE HOME OF MR. AND MRS. LEE Monday, Mr. John T. Lee Sr. was 71 years of age. This important event was celebrated by a reunion of the family held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee at Welsh community. The eleven living children were present and all the grandchildren, 27 in number. Other relatives ran the total up to about sixty souls. A big feast was served out doors. Mr. Lee is one of the finest men in all this section. In passing his home the other day two men remarked that he was one of the best farmers in Alabama. He has revolutionized the appearance of his new home since he moved there a few years ago. And another good thing about it; if Mr. Lee is still a "young" man. Long may he live. --- UNION HILL News July 31st Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Arrington of Roanoke spent last week with their daughter Mrs. J.L. Rice. --- LOCAL News W.B. Anglin and family have moved to LaGrange, Ga., where he is assisting A.R. Noel in the sale of musical instruments. --- WEHADKEE News July 31st Mr. S.J. Lewis, who was seriously ill at our last writing, passed to his reward on the 18th, following a stroke of paralysis. He was ready to go and praised God in his dying moments. The deceased was nearly 72 years old and had been a member of the Baptist church about fifty years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R.B. Hester at Big Springs. The Masons were in charge of the burial. Besides his companion, he is survived by three children: Mr. J.F. Lewis of Atlanta, Miss Ida Lewis and Mrs. Jim Noble of Alabama CIty, Ala. ---- Rev. H.R. Moore was stricken seriously ill on Sunday while attending services at Big Springs. We do not know what the outcome will be. He was carried to the home of his daughter Mrs. A.W. Duke. --- Mr. Travis Alsobrook and family of Morgan county have been visiting the former's parents and other relatives in this section. --- WADLEY News July 31st Mr. John Robert Harris and Miss Myrtle Seymour motored to LaFayette and were married last Saturday and went from there to Atlanta and other points on their wedding trip. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. W.H. Seymour and one of Wadley's most popular young ladies. The groom is a very popular and promising young man. ---- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, August 9, 1922 DEATH OF MRS. M. LILES OCCURRED Mrs. Mary Liles died at four o'clock Saturday afternoon at her home in East Lowell. She had been ill several days but her death was unexpected at the time. Sunday morning at 11 o'clock the funeral was conducted at Mt. Zion. Revs. J.H. Huges, J.D. Dollar and W.D. Lee had part in the services. The deceased was a member of the Christian church, was 71 years of age and was the widow of the late Mr. Madison Liles. ---- LOCAL News Arnold Estes came over from Atlanta the first of the week and is attending his mother Mrs. J.W. Estes who is quite sick at her home in Rock Mills. --- CORINTH News Aug. 7th Mr. and Mrs. T. Yates and children who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ocie Wright and family for some time, returned to their home in Cullman county Thursday last. --- ROCK MILLS News Aug. 7th "Uncle" Daniel Farr was buried at this place on Saturday. He was 84 years of age and was a faithful christian. Everyone is going to miss him. --- WADLEY News Aug. 7th Mr. S.J. Dunn who has typhoid fever is some better at this writing. --- LAMAR News Aug. 7th Mr. and Mrs. Alford Arrington of DeKalb county are visiting relatives in this county at present. --- AVA News Aug. 7th Mrs. Alla Wright and daughter Mrs. Mollie Mae Keith are visiting the former's sister Mrs. Penola Kemp at Florence, Ala. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, August 16, 1922 CARD OF THANKS We take this method of thanking our friends and neighbors for their loving kindness during the illness and death of our loving mother. Liles --- LOCAL News Grady Allen and Miss Docia Lee Waldrop of Taylor's Cross Roads were married at Evansville, Ga., on Sunday. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Waldrep and the groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Allen. --- ( NOTE: The newspaper issue of AUGUST 23, 1922 was not filmed for this microfilm roll) NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, August 30, 1922 MRS. ABERNATHY'S FATHER DIED LAST THURSDAY Mr. W.Z. Wolf who was one of the oldest and best citizens of Lineville, died last Thursday night in a hospital in Atlanta where he was operated on some hours before. His remains were brought through Roanoke on the early train Saturday morning and were in interred in Lineville on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was the father of Mrs. Sam F. Abernathy of Roanoke, who, with her husband, went to Lineville to attend the last sad rites. This affliction is doubly heavy upon the children of the family since the mother died only five months ago. ---- LOCAL News News is received in Roanoke that Mrs. George L. Cox committed suicide early this morning at her home in LaGrange. She had been in ill health twelve months but no indication of the tragedy was given. Until a few years ago the Cox family lived near Omaha, this county. It is thought that the interment will be at Big Springs. --- WADLEY News Aug. 28th W.H. Treadwell of Johnson City, Tenn., is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Treadwell. --- STANDING ROCK News Aug. 29th Mrs. Thad Key and daughters Mattie Grace and Annie Mae of near Roanoke visited the former's mother last week, Mrs. N.L. Littlefield. --- Mrs. Alvin Burkes of Langdale spent the weekend with her brother here, Mr. Heize Estes. --- ROCK MILLS News Aug. 28th The spirit of Mrs. Sara Mooney pased out of this life Monday morning at one o'clock. She was 72 years of age. The funeral was conducted Monday afternoon at the Methodist church. --- CARD OF THANKS We wish that we could find words to express our heartfelt thanks to the dear people of Roanoke for their words of sympathy and their acts of kindness during the sickness and death of our dear little girl. We feel sure and pray that God will richly bless each one of you.
