A.J. KENT DIED THURSDAY AT HER HOME NEAR WEDOWEE Last Thursday evening, two miles west of Wedowee, Mrs. A.J. Kent died and was buried Friday evening at Mount Pleasant, near her home. Rev. J.P. West conducted the funeral services. She was the wife of Mr. A.J. Kent of Randolph County and was the mother of Mr. A.L. Kent, a well known merchant of Wedowee. Mrs. Kent was about 65 years old, a member of the Missionary Baptist church, and a good mother. Her children were all present at the time of her death except one, Mrs. Nixon, who was not able to come and who lives in the state of Texas. Bill and Roy Kent who live in Texas, arrived just before their mother's death. Mrs. Kent leaves many relatives and friends to mourn her departure, May God's richest blessings rest upon her husband and children. ----- LOCAL News Dr. S.W. Lane and family attended the funeral yesterday of Mrs. Billie Heard in Camp Hill. Mrs. Heard was a cousin of Mrs. Lane. --- Mrs. E.M. Sharman was called to Camp Hill yesterday on account of the death of her sister Mrs. Billie Heard. --- WADLEY News Dec. 4th Mr. Percy Fuller and Miss Pansy Gunby were happily married Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Radney. They then motored to LaGrange, Brunswick and other points. Mrs. Fuller has been employed as milliner for Radney & Co. for the past three seasons. Mr. Fuller is connected with the A.B. & A. and stationed here. --- IN MEMORY OF HIRAM GIBSON, by Putnam Lodge No. 212 Whereas, the Supreme Ruler of the Universe has in His infinite wisdom removed from us our beloved brother Hiram Gibson, an endeared and honored member of this order, and; Whereas in his untimely death we keenly feel our loss; Resolved first; that we bow in humble submission to Him that doeth all things well; Second; therefore that we sincerely condole with the bereaved wife and children and extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayer that the loving Father of all may comfort them in their loneliness and dark hours of bereavement. Gray, Committee ------ NEW HOPE News Dec. 4th J.M. Huey made a trip to Macon, Ga., last week to visit his brothers John and Luke. --- J.M. Huey had a colt die on Saturday which the veterinarian prounced had hydrophobia. The colt bit Mr. Huey on the soldier. He has gone to Montgomery today to take treatment if necessary. --- WOODLAND News Dec. 4th Mrs. Matilda Cline died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Elsie Nelson last Thursday. She was about 95 years old and a member of the Methodist church. Her remains were laid to rest in Bear Creek cemetery on Friday. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Nelson of Ava community and Mrs. Linnie Woodward of Anniston and two sons, Messrs. Louis and Rant Cline of Texas. ---- Last Thursday the little daughter Emma, of Mr. Tommie Yates died of T.B. at the home of Mr. P.M. Yates and was buried at Rocky Branch on Friday. --- BACON LEVEL News Dec. 4th The remains of Mr. F.M. Ragland were brought here from Fairfax last Wednesday afternoon and interred in the local cemetery. Rev. G.H. Shadix conducted the funeral service. The deceased leaves a wife, a daughter and four sons to mourn his death. The bereaved family has our sympathy. ---- UNION HILL News Dec. 4th Miss Ione Blake was in LaFayette last week where she was called by the fatal illness of her aunt, Mrs. Henry Pate. --- LOCAL News Wm. O. Kent was in town Saturday, returning to Stanton, Texas where he is editor of a weekly newspaper. He was called to Wedowee by the fatal illness of his mother Mrs. A.J. Kent. --- Mrs. W.H. Mann is at the home of her parents near Milltown, her father Mr. Charles H. Stephenson being critically ill. --- Mrs. Alice Manley has been visiting at the home of her daughter Mrs. A.L. Weaver in Opelika. --- MILLTOWN News Mr. Bart Weaver died today and will be buried at Milltown, his old home place. --- HOPEWELL News Dec. 4th Mrs. A.J. Kent who lived near this place, died last Thursday night. The remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery Friday afternoon. --- Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Yates and Miss Hattie Wright, all of Wedowee spent the Thanksgiving with the former's daughter Mrs. C.D. Pike. --- MT. ZION News Dec. 4th Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Swann went to Milltown on Saturday to attend the funeral of the former's grandfather Mr. Bart Weaver who died Friday morning. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, December 13, 1922 LOCAL News Mrs. Caroline Nolen died at her home at Delta, Clay county, the sixth of this month after a long illness. She spent the greater portion of her life in the northern part of Chambers county. --- NEW HOPE News Dec. 11th Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Nix spent last week at the beside of Mr. Nix's mother who is seriously ill. They have no hope for her recovery. --- Ellis Bradley who has been in the West for two years is here visiting his many relatives and friends. --- PINE HILL News Dec. 11th Several from this place attended J.J. Cato's sale last Friday over in Beat 2. Mr. Cato leaves shortly for Calhoun county where he will make his home. --- Mrs. John Ragsdale and daughter Ruby spent last week visiting the former's daughter Mrs. Herman Poore in Atlanta. --- Mrs. Gertrude Bonner of Atlanta spent last week visiting her father J.W. Carroll at Newell community. --- WOODLAND News Dec. 11th Mrs. Henry Beck and little daughter Fannie of Akron, Ohio arrived last Monday and are visiting her father and mother Mr. and Mrs. S.N. Stephens and other relatives for a few weeks. ---- Leonard McCarley has returned home from a stay of a few months with his uncle Mr. William Crouch in Oklahoma. --- Mr. Crochet Delamar, the blacksmith at Woodland, had a sale on Saturday. He and his family will soon move to Anniston. --- LOCAL News Miss Martha Blake went Saturday to Jacksonville, Ala., where she will take a special course preparatory to teaching vocal music in the public schools. --- Mr. T.A.S. Norris, an aged gentleman, is very low at his home near Dickert. --- OFELIA News Mrs. Bud Yates was called Monday to the bedside of her mother Mrs. Interkin in Texas. --- WEHADKEE News Dec. 11th T.B. Alsobrook of Morgan county has been visiting his father Mr. C.A. Alsobrook who has been quite sick, but is some better at this writing. --- WADLEY News Dec. 11th Mr. and Mrs. N.J. George left last week for Hot Springs, Arkansas where Mr. George hopes to regain his health. --- MT. ZION News Dec. 11th Last Sunday afternoon, Leon Cooper of LaGrange came down and took Miss Mayme Liles from our community and carried her to Evansville, Ga., where they were united in marriage. They intend to make their future home in LaGrange. ---- UNION HILL News Dec. 11th J.T. Rowe and family and also Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Arrington of Raonoke spent Sunday with the latter's daughter Mrs. J.L. Rice. --- BACON LEVEL News Dec. 11th Mr. Z.D. Ussery and Miss Myrtle Lane went to Evansville on Wednesday night of the past week and were united in the holy bonds of matrimony by Esq. Henderson. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, December 20, 1922 MR. F.B. CUMMINGS DIED IN LINEVILLE DEC. 13th (from The Lineville, Headlight) Mr. F. Barto Cummings, one of Lineville's most prominent business men and citizens, died here early Wednesday morning, after being operated on Monday for gallstones. Mr. Cummings became seriously ill late Saturday afternoon at his store and was carried home, and after growing worse was operated on Monday morning and it is said that he never fully rallied afterwards. Mr. Cummings came to Lineville from Stroud, Ala. in Chambers county and for a long time was blacksmith here and went into the produce and grocery business. He was popularly known as "Dad" Cummings and given up to be the strongest man in Lineville even till Saturday. His sudden death was a great shock to all who knew him and his friends were many. Burial was at Macedonia cemetery, 3 miles west of town. Revs. Henson and Driskell conducted the funeral services. He leaves surviving him, his wife and children: Will Cummings of Montgomery; Wren Cummings of Kentucky; Dewey Cummings of Opelika; Mrs. Cecil McCrary and Mrs. Furman Reeves of Lineville and Mrs. E.A. Burch of Texas and Miss Rubie Cummings of Lineville. The Lineville Headlight ------ LOCAL News Mrs. T.L. Hardy continues in a very low state of health at her home on Wedowee street, this city. --- Mr. George Hamilton, a Confederate veteran who was a familiar figure in this vicinity, died last Wednesday at the county farm near Wedowee. --- WEHADKEE News Dec. 18th Mrs. Frazier Bailey died last Friday at her home in Beat 4. --- "Uncle" George Hamilton died at the Pauper Farm near Wedowee and was buried at Big Springs last Thursday. --- Mrs. J.M. Fincher died last Friday night at her home near this place after an illness of a week. The deceased was 66 years old. She had been a member of the Methodist church for 53 years and lived a devoted christian. She is survived by a husband, eight children and a large number of grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Mr. W.T. Kent at Big Springs on Sunday afternoon. --- NEW HOPE News Dec. 18th Mrs. R.R. Tomlinson died last Thursday night. She was buried at Rocky Branch on Saturday, Rev. J.L. Hicks conducting the funeral. The bereaved have our sympathy. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, December 27, 1922 LOCAL News Saturday night before Christmas Mrs. S.M. Burdett came to the end of a useful life at the age of 75 years. She was a member of the Baptist church. The interment was on Monday morning after services conducted by Rev. J.D. O'Keefe. --- In Roanoke on Saturday night before Christmas, Mrs. W.W. McCarter passed into rest, after a months' illness, her demise occurring at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Mitchum. Funeral services were conducted from the home Monday afternoon by Rev. O'Keefe followed by interment in the city cemetery. ---- Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Swann and Mrs. Burdett attended the marriage in the Presbyterian church in LaGrange last Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock of Miss Gertrude Whitley of Glenn, Georgia to Mr. Walter Scott Davis. The ceremony was followed by an elaborate reception. ---- Mr. Jesse Dollar was married at 10 o'clock a.m. near New Hope in Chambers county last Saturday to Miss Fannie Mae Elder. The couple went to Atlanta, returning Monday and will visit his father's home till Tuesday when they will leave for Elon College, N.C. ---- BACON LEVEL News Dec. 25th Mrs. J.J. Arnett returned home last week after spending some time with her daughter Mrs. James Whitley at Glenn, Ga., where she went to get acquainted with her grandson born to Mr. and Mrs. Whitley on the 11th inst. --- Mr. Worley Lipham of Newell community and Miss Bertie Shadix, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. G.H. Shadix, went to Evansville last Wednesday and were married. Mr. and Mrs. Lipham will make their home near Newell. --- Mr. Jesse Crenshaw of Hicklory Flat and Miss Minnie May Albright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Albright, went to Evansville yesterday and got married. --- LOCAL News W.E. Manley of the U.S. Army, gallant ex-service man, was the guest of his mother Mrs. E.G.
