J.W. HOOPER'S MOTHER DIED SUDDENLY MAY 30th Albertville, Ala., May 31st - - - Mrs. Isabelle Hooper, wife of the late John F. Hooper, promiment banker, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon while seated on the porch of the home of her son, A.B. Hooper, president of Hooper's Bank. Mrs. Hooper was 84 years of age and had been a resident of Albertville for 25 years. Her death will cause much sorrow over the entire state where she was prominently connected. Dr. and Mrs. J.W. Hooper were called to Albertville last Thursday to attend the funeral of the former's mother. ---- LOCAL News Sheriff Ballard reports that last week he arrested Joe Sudduth and Hershel Traylor on a charge of violating the prohibition laws and carrying concealed weapons. --- Henry and Arven Heard were tried on Wednesday before Justices Hearn and Crockett for the murder of Preach Webb. The court gave Henry Heard his freedom and Arven Heard was bound over to the grand jury under $5000. bond. Franklin, Georgia, News and Banner. ---- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, June 13, 1923 WADLEY News June 11th Mr. Lumby Prince and Miss Jewel Hodge of Wadley motored to LaGrange on Saturday night where they were married. Mr. Prince is a young merchant in our town and Miss Hodge is the youngest daughter of Mr. H. Frank Hodge. --- Mrs. Margaret Fant, aged 89, died near Wadley yesterday and was buried today at Mountain church. ---- DEATH OF GEORGE M. HOLDER In reporting the death of Mr. George M. Holder which occurred at his home near Friendship church Monday morning, The Leader records the death of one of Randolph's most worthy and esteemed citizens. He was a native of Randolph county where the many years of his useful life were spent. He was a brother of Mr. W.M. Holder of this city. The funeral and interment was at Friendship on Tuesday morning. ----- LEVEL ROAD News June 11th A sad event was that of last Saturday at noon when the spirit of Miss Lucinda Jeter, familiarly known as "Aunt Lucinda" took its flight. Her death followed an illness of about four weeks, although she had been in feeble health a few years. Aunt Lucinda was about eighty-eight years of age. She had been living at her nephew's, Mr. Green Camp for several years. She joined the Baptist church before the Civil War. Interment was at Macedonia cemetery on Sunday about twelve o'clock. Rev. H.J. Browning conducted the services. ---- CORINTH News June 11th Mr. O.W. Eiland was called by the death of his father last Saturday at Bleecher, Ala. --- Mr. and Mrs. Hines Eiland, Mrs. J.W. Eiland, Annie Lee Eiland and Mr. A.J. Bennett arrived home from Bleecher, Ala. on Monday. --- LOCAL News Mrs. Albert Ayres and four sons arrived Monday from Tampa, Fla., to visit kinspeople in Randolph county. --- Mrs. Alex Stevens Jr. and children of south Alabama are visiting her sister Mrs. Homer Beverly near town, and her parents Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Kirby near Wedowee. --- Mr. and Mrs. M. Schuessler and T.C. Bingham were called to Montgomery yesterday the news of the death of the former's sister, Mrs. Roemer. Interment will be in that city today. ---- UNION HILL News June 11th Mr. Dock Nixon, a brother of Mr. Dave Nixon of this community, got run over by a big truck last Thursday near LaGrange and was killed. Mr. Nixon was moving at the time of the accident. He was buried at Broughton on Friday. ---- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, June 20, 1923 DEMISE ON SUNDAY OF MRS. MOREE Mrs. J.A. Moree died at 3:25 Sunday morning at the Roanoke Infirmary where she came several weeks ago for a serious operation. All efforts to save her from the fatal malady that preyed upon her proved unavailing. The home of Mrs. Moree, who was 57 years of age, was at Riverview where she had lived since her eighteenth year. She had a number of relatives living in Roanoke; Mrs. O.C. Bagley and Mrs. J.T. Sands being sisters and Mr. Cephus Moree and Mrs. Lon Story being children. She was the mother of twelve children, nine of whom are living. This good woman was a member of the Christian church for many years. Funeral and interment was at Riverview on Sunday afternoon. Services were conducted by Mr. Holdridge, Methodist pastor and Mr. Bartlett, Baptist minister. ---- AGED LADY DIED FRIDAY EVENING NEAR TOWN Late last Friday, the spirit of Mrs. R.S. Snuggs, freed from the frailties of the flesh, entered upon the larger better life. This good woman, who was 89 years of age, had been an invalid for several years, but bore her afflictions with christian resignation. The death of Mrs. Snuggs occurred at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. R.L. Gillam, two miles east of Roanoke. This daughter, aided by other family members, had given to the afflicted mother most unremitting attention, a beautiful picture of filial devotion. The deceased was the widow of the late Rev. Robert S. Snuggs who was an honored local Methodist minister for many years before his death which occurred about fifteen years ago. The former home of the family was Standing Rock. Here the funeral services were conducted at ten o'clock Sunday morning from the Methodist church, Rev. V.C. Herndon being in charge. A large concourse of friends gathered to pay respect to the memory of one of God's elect children. The surviving children are: Messrs. J.P. and P.O. Snuggs, Mesdames J.W. Bates, J.D. Ozley and R.L. Gillam. ----- WEHADKEE News June 18th C.J. Ussery and son Jack of Denison, Texas have been visiting kindred at this place for the past week. --- Will Bridges was called to Prattville last Friday by the serious illness of his father Mr. Jim Bridges. --- Mr. Emmett Mayfield of this place and Miss Hattie Gay of Omaha community motored over to LaGrange on Sunday a week ago and were married. --- LOWELL News Mr. and Mrs. Clem Clifton and baby are visitors here. --- Mrs. Barto Hardy of LaGrange is visiting her daughter Mrs. Charlie Hester. --- LOCAL News Mrs. J.T. Clack of Abanda was operated on at the Roanoke Infirmary on Monday. Her condition is reported as favorable. --- Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Tatum were called yesterday to LaFayette by the critical illness of Mrs. John B. Tatum. --- NEW HOPE News June 18th Mr. John Shaw, an old and honorable citizen of the Haywood community was buried at Haywood yesterday. --- Mr. D.T. Pollard was called to the bedside of his mother one day last week. There seems to be no hope for Mrs. Pollard's recovery. --- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, June 27, 1923 LOCAL News Mr. Tom Johnson died Sunday at 2 o'clock a.m. and was buried at New Hope in Chambers county on Monday. --- NEW HOPE News June 25th Mrs. Pollard was buried last week. --- LOCAL News Mrs. M.A. Jordan has gone to Kansas City, Mo., to spend an indefinite time with her son Fletcher. --- WEDOWEE News June 25th Mr. Bill Kent and family of Stanton, Texas arrived last week. They will probably spend the summer here. --- WEHADKEE News June 25th Mrs. John H. Davis from south Georgia is visiting her brother Mr. C.H. Green and other relatives in this section. --- Mrs. Mack Talley has moved back from LaGrange to the home of her father Mr. N.C.Henry.
