Belcher had proved in vain. Death claimed her for its own. Mrs. Belcher had been very ill with the fever for a week, later double pneumonia set up and she sank rapidly into the last sleep. Many friends of the deceased and of the stricken family would share the burden that has fallen upon this home if only they could. Indeed, every effort has been made to alleviate the sufferings of the one now gone and to lighten the load of the living. Mrs. Belcher belonged to one of the best known families of Randolph and Chambers counties. She was born and reared in the latter but for many years had made her home in Roanoke. She was loved and respected for her modest, gentle virtues. She was devoted and true, and filled well the honored position of wife and mother. She had barely reached the age of 56 years when called to her reward. For a long while before her death, she had been in delicate health.
