Blount County News-Dispatch March 15, 1894
Mr. Shaw Nixon, of Randolph county, a good old Confederate soldier, was convicted 
at the Fall Term of Court, and sentenced to one year and a day's imprisonment, 
for removing property that was mortgaged to A. E. Fields, of Blountsville, We are 
glad to hear that through the earnest and incessant efforts of his counsel, 
George W. Darden, Esq, Gov. Thomas G. Jones was induced to pardon the old man and 
restore him to full citizenship. During his term of office Governor Jones never 
performed a more praiseworthy act.
