Benefield, administratrix of the estate of W.H. Benefield, deceased, having filed her accounts and vouchers for final settlement of said estate, notice is hereby given that the 22nd day of December 1895 has been appointed for such settlement at which time all persons interested may appear if they see proper. Weathers, Judge of Probate ___ NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION Land Office, Montgomery, Ala November 29, 1895 Notice is hereby given that the following named settler has filed notice of his intention to make final proof in support of his his claim and that said proof will be made before the clerk of the circuit court at Wedowee, Ala., on January 15th 1896, viz: Jake Harris, Homestead entry No. 24,925 for the NE 1/4 of NE 1/4, Section 15, SW 1/4 of SW 1/4 section 11 W, 1/2 of NW 1/4 Section 14, Township 19, South of Range 10 East. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence and cultivation of said land, viz: J.M. McClung, Rube McClung, J.D. Smith, Elbert Pate, all of Milner, Ala. ___ NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION Land Office, Montgomery, Ala November 29, 1895 Notice is hereby given that the following name settler had filed notice of his intention to make final proof in support of his claim and that said proof will be made before the clerk of the circuit court at Wedowee, Ala. on January 14, 1896, viz: Simpson A. Banks, Homestead Entry No. 22, 108 for the SE 1/4 of SW 1/4, Section 26, N 1/2 of NW 1/4, SW 1/4 of NW 1/4, Section 35, township 20 South of Range 10 East. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence and cultivation of said land, viz: M. Marables, Richard Williams, Jesse Tramell, John Lane, all of Gay, Ala. ___ LOCAL News Mr. W.N. Clifton family left several days ago by private conveyance to attend the Exposition. They intend to take their time and enjoy the big show for all it is worth. __ Invitations are out announcing the marriage of Mr. J. Thomas Heflin, formerly of this county, and Miss Minnie Kate Scheussler, to take place at the Methodist Church at LaFayette, Ala., Wednesday evening the 18th inst. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Stewart went over to Roanoke yesterday to see Mr. and Mrs. John J. Stewart off for their North Carolina home. The latter have had a pleasant stay with their relatives in this county and all regret their departure. __ Mrs. Baggett, a widow lady living about five miles northeast of Roanoke, committed suicide some time Saturday evening by hanging herself. Her body was not found till Sunday morning when it was found in the woods near the house suspended to the limb of a tree by an apron band. The Toiler's informant had not learned the particulars of the sad affair but the act was said to be attributable to some family troubles. Mrs. Baggett was upward of 50 years of age and was well known to the old citizens of that portion of the county. __ HAYWOOD News We are sorry to learn that Superintendant G.O. Hill's mother is very low. She is in the city of Roanoke now. We hope she will soon recover. __ Mr. T.M. McClendon and Mr. R.L. Barton are going to the Exposition this week. __ NON-RESIDENT NOTICE To Wm. Woodson: Whereas, W.J.M. Benefield, administrator de bonis non of the estate of C.C. Benefield, deceased, has filed his application in the Probate Court of Randolph County, Ala., for a sale of the lands in said application described, belonging to the estate of said decedent for the purpose of distribution upon the ground that the lands of said estate cannot be equitably distributed among said heirs; and the 7th day of January 1896 has been appointed for the hearing of said application; You are, therefore notified to appear before said court on the 7th day of January 1896 to contest said application if you think proper. Weather, Judge of Probate __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, December 19, 1895 LOCAL News Mr. Wash Traylor ("Uncle Wash"), the grandfather of our efficient deputy sheriff, who lives about six miles northeast of Wedowee, was happily married on Monday evening to Miss Lou Allen, with Rev. Mack Scott performing the ceremony. The Toiler extends hearty congratulations to the happy couple and wishes them many years of happiness. ___ CLACK News Mrs. Garner is very ill. __ Mr. James B. Creed happened to bad luck on last Monday. He got into a fight and got hit on the head but not dangerously hurt. He is getting along very well. __ Mr. Pressly McKenry left this morning for the mountain. Mr. Henry Creed left last Saturday. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, December 26, 1895 FINAL SETTLEMENT State of Alabama, Randolph County Probate Court Dec. 21, 1895 Notice is hereby given that H.C. Jordan and H.R. Loveless, administrators with the will annexed of Wm. Jordan, deceased, have this day filed their accounts and vouchers in this office for a final settlement of said estate, and that the 15th day of January 1896 has been set by the court for such settlement. A.J. Weathers, Judge of Probate ____ LOCAL News Geo. W. Starnes, son of Maj. Starnes, came in Monday from Limestone County, Texas. He will spend a couple of weeks with his father's family and then return. He is in fine health and is quite a nice young man. __ We are sorry to announce the death of Mrs. William Hill. She was a noble woman and she will be missed by her many friends. __ WEHADKEE News Wehadkee is a hustling little country village, situated in the southeastern parst of the county; has two stores and a post office, one blacksmith shop and grist mill, two gins, and has a fine school. Her people are industrious, clever and sociable. Mr. S.D. Lewis made a flying trip to Loftin, GA last Saturday. __ Mrs. W.P. Ethridge and daughter Miss Mattie of Red Oak, GA visited relatives here on Sunday. __ Mr. J.W.
