Wood and Miss Mollie Johnson were maried at Almond, on Thursday of last week. __ Mrs. R.H. Ford has been quite ill since Thursday last but we are glad to learn she is reported better. __ Mr. Harmon Gibbs returned from Lineville yesterday and we are glad to learn, reports that his father is much better. __ W.B. Nichols, brother of our townsman F.P Nichols, was last week appointed postmaster at LaFayette to succeed S.M. Richards. Mr. Richards held the office under the last Republican administration. Roanoke Leader. __ Mrs. Eliza Haynes, aged about 64 years, who lived about seven miles south of Wedowee, died on Saturday, April 29th. Mrs. Haynes was said to be the first white child born in Randolph County. She was the widow of the late Fletcher Haynes, and was well known and highly esteemed by all the older citizens of the county. ___ Dr. J.T. Burns and Miss Charlotte Traylor were happily married at the residence of the bride's mother near town yesterday evening, Hon. A.J. Weathers officiating. __ OFELIA News Miss Frances Carlile of your town visited her cousin Miss Lula Knight on Sunday. __ Mr. Tom Boyd and family of Milner paid a visit Saturday and Sunday to his brother, Mr. George Rice. __ NEWELL News We are sorry to note that Mrs. E.S. Dye has a severe bone-felon. Hope she will soon recover. __ Our town was grieved sadly over the death of Mr. Elbie Walker, which occurred on the night of the 22nd ult. The body was buried at Antioch. Elbie was well known and greatly beloved by a large circle of friends and many, carrying with them the choicest flowers of the season, made their way to the cemetery, tenderly laying their tribute of love and respect on the mound which marks his last resting place. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, May 14, 1897 LOCAL News Mr. John Lipham and Miss Della Chamblee were married at the home of the bride near Wildwood last Sunday, the 9th inst. __ Mr. J.W. Huckaby, formerly of Rock Mills, now of Wildwood, was in town Monday and Tuesday and renewed his subscription to The Toiler. __ Yesterday the news came that Miss Hattie Messer and Mr. Lee Black were happily married at the house of Miss Hattie's mother in Ashland on Wednesday night, the 12th inst. __ WEHADKEE News Mr. W.R. Hood and family visited relatives at Springfield on Sunday. __ Several of our young people attended the annual singing at New Hope, GA last Sunday. They report good singing and plenty of rations. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, May 21, 1897 LOCAL News Prof. J.E. Thomason brought Mrs. Thomason and the two baby boys down from their home at Brockville on Wednesday to pay a visit to Mrs. Thomason's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Stewart. __ Col. J.W. Oliver, who returned last week from Dadeville where he was visiting his sick mother, received a message the first of the week that she was worse and left immediately for her bedside. Col. Oliver's friends hope he may not find the distress he feared on leaving his home. __ NEWELL News Mr. Monroe Lovvorn is at home again much to the delight of all. __ Mr. W.W. Brooks of this place will make his home in Georgia this year. Walton is a jolly fellow and will be greatly missed by his large circle of friends here. __ Mr. W.J. Walker, wife and W.V. Christian and his two little nieces, visited the family of L. King at Glenn, GA a short time since. All reported a pleasant trip. ___ Grandma King has moved to Georgia, much to the regret of her friends and relatives. __ WEST WEDOWEE News Mr. Joseph Gatling is head man in our settlement. He is done chopping cotton and is working corn the second time. __ LAMAR News The good citizens and singers of this and surrounding communities met on the 16th day of May for the purpose of singing in memory of Mr. Alsie Lovvorn, deceased, who was a great lover of music and is missed very much by singing friends. ____ POTASH News Health good, except for Grandma Hall who is very feeble. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, May 28, 1897 LOCAL News The Toiler is informed that Mr. West DeVaughan, a prominent and well known citizen, living about a mile west of Blake's Ferry, was suddenly stricken with paralysis on Tuesday last, falling to the floor speechless and unconscious. Mr. DeVaughan is perhaps 60 years of age, large and portly, and his affliction came without warning. He has not regained consciousness at last accounts. __ We sincerely regret to learn that our esteemed townsman, Col. J.W. Oliver, realized his worst fears on his visit to his old home in Dadeville last week, in the death of his mother, Mrs. A.E. Oliver, which occurred on Friday evening at sunset. Mrs. Oliver was born in Campbell County, Georgia and was 62 years of age at the time of her death. Her husband, Mr. L.C. Oliver, and eight children survive her, all of whom were present to receive her dying admonitions, she being conscious to the last. The Toiler joins Col. Oliver's many friends in heartfelt condolence. ___ NAPOLEON News Uncle Burrell Nail, the oldest man perhaps in our county, who is ninety-five, is now lying very low. The expiring lamp, we fear, is making it's last flicker. He is a pioneer settler of our county. Has been a good citizen and an honest man. He often speaks of his friend, Dr. Hood. Doctor can't you come and see your venerable friend? No medicine would be of more beneficient effect than a visit from "Gus" Reaves, "Charley" Prescott and any of his old Wedowee friends. Let them not deny him this boon. Old age, especially when it has been exemplary, is honorable. ___ OFELIA News Mrs. J.W. Burrow is very sick; also, W.T. Burrow. __ Mr. Taylor has a little son in a very critical condition caused by sucking a whistle down his throat. __ Johnie Burrow is quite sick. __ Mrs. Camp visited her parents near Wedowee last week. __ Master Arthur Crane of Clay county, visited his sister Mrs. J.T.
