This camp held its annual meeting at 10 o’clock a m, May 1st, 1909 [in Roanoke]. Captain W A HANDLEY, commander, called the camp to order, and made an appropriate talk. Roll call of camp was ordered and one hundred and ten members answered to their names. About half the members now living were present. Many since last annual meeting had passed over to the dress parade of the Great Beyond and are tenting on the Great Camp Ground. The largest death list was reported since the organization of the camp June 24, 1893. We, the survivors of said camp, fully realize that a few more years at best and we all will have disappeared from the walks of men. Since our last annual meeting the following named members have died, and are now bivouaced [sic] on the other shore, waiting for comrades who must soon follow: W J ALMON, H C ALLEN, J G ANGLIN, John H BOYD, Thomas BLAKE, G J DAVIS, H D ESTES, N E FINCHER, S B GASTON, Jas A HARDY, Samuel HARRELL, Wm HARPER, S P HORTON, T W HILL, John HARDY, Jesse KIRK, W A MULLINS, J A MOON, N E McCRARY, S G OTWELL, F M PITTS, E T PHILPOTT, S A POLLARD, D B ROGERS, Joseph SMITH, Jonathan SUDDUTH, A D STARNES, M B HURST, Nick WHLEEER [sic -- probably WHEELER], B F WALKER of Roanoke, B F WALKER who lived north of town. Total, 31. On motion, the following veterans were elected as delegates to the general reunion to be held at Memphis, Tenn, on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of June, 1909: B F WEATHERS, G O HILL, W A RADNEY, Dr Wm WEATHERS, W A ROBERTS, J H LANDERS, J W STEWART, C W EICHELBERGER, F M WHITE, M R TAYLOR, J W BELCHER, and R B F ROBISON. On motion, the delegates, in case they were prevented from attending, were given the right of appointing their alternates or proxies. On motion, Miss Willie Bell STEWART, of Wedowee, was unanimously elected sponsor for the camp. On motion of G O HILL, the old officers were unanimously reelected for the ensuing year. There being no further business, the camp adjourned, formed in procession and marched to where dinner had been prepared through the liberal contributions of the good citizens of the town -- a nice treat to the old veterans. Afterwards they took part in the memorial exercises of the day. W A HANDLEY, Commander. J T COLEMAN, Adjutant.
