Messrs. B. O. Driver and Ernest Carlisle, Roanoke's popular druggists, were right badly mangled up Friday night, caused by a horse running away. They were in a cart, had been to Rook Mills, and on their way back, about two miles from town, while coming down aslant, the horse began kicking and running, Mr. Carlisle saw the situation and jumped out, threw himself against the ground, his face struck a rock, and cut an ugly gash just above his eye. Mr. Driver held on and tried to check the horse, but the horse continued to kick until he kicked the bottom out of the cart, and Mr. Driver pulled himself in the foot by the reins, fell through between the horse's feet and received a severe kick on the leg, and the wheel run over his head and neck. The horse ran to town, ran against a post near the livery stable and tore away from the cart, ran up by Capt. Weather's, knocked down two panels sixteen feet of yard fencing. Still, he never broke his speed, but went down the Louina Road, and ran to the creek near J. H. Radney's, five miles from town, and there he turned out of the road and became entangled in some grape vines, where he was found today about 12 o'clock. The distance he ran was about seven miles, and strange to say. he was not hurt. Mr. Driver is able to be up, but Mr. Carlisle is still confined to his bed.
