Weekly Columbus Enquirer April 30, 1872
We were informed last week of a most heartless murder which was committed in 
Randolph County Ala. A young lad but fourteen years wishing to go hunting took 
his father's gun and left the house, his mother not desiring that he should go 
called him back and the little rascal not heeding her she went toward him for 
the purpose of taking the gun, when the boy turned and told her he would kill 
her if she didn't go back. The poor mother of course not thinking her son could 
been in earnest, advanced nearer to him when he deliberately raised his gun and 
shot her through the heart-dead.
It is a most revolting crime and parallel to the unpardonable sin it does not 
worthy of being called that of itself. We suppose the murderer was arrested, 
although we have not been informed of the fact.
