As Mr. Adams is informed, the man borrowed fifty dollars from his father-in-law on Friday morning and left home. He told his wife that he was going off to hunt work, and that he would return he didn't know when perhaps in a day or two, or perhaps never. Meeting a creditor, he paid him twenty dollars of the money borrowed from his father-in-law. He then proceeded to Wedowee, fourteen or fifteen miles. Arriving there he took lodging at the boarding house of Mrs. Owens. He told Mrs. Owens that he didn't want any supper and that as he would not be there for breakfast he had better settle for his night's lodging before he retired. This he did. He then went out in town and bought a vial of laudanum, probably from Mr. Gibbs. When he returned to the boarding house, and Mrs. Owen's little son conducted him to his room. While the boy was in the room, the (stranger to him) took the vial from his pocket, drank the contents, poured water into the vial, shook up the sediment, and drank the water. Young Owens saw him drink the contents of the bottle, but he supposed that the man was only drinking a dose of medicine. Consequently, he thought no more of it, till the next morning, when the man's body was found lying across the bed, his spirit flown to another world later. Since the above was written we have earned that the suicider's name was W.F. Stubbs. Additional Comments: Possibly Wm Franklin Stubbs of Harris County GA.
