The men were fishing in the river by wading from spot to spot and were accompanied by their father, Ben Elliott and a neighbor, Lawrence Tarver. The elder Elliott and Tarver had come out of the river and gone a short distance up stream when they heard Clarence Clark shout for help. The two brothers had evidently jumped into aid Clark as their faces bore bruises and scratches indicating a struggle. All 3 men had disappeared beneath the water when their father and Taylor reached the scene. The bodies were rescued some few hours later by T. R. Elliott, an uncle, and Curtis McGill. Andrew Elliott, age 28, was married and is survived by the widow and two small children. Earnest, age 22, was married but he and his wife had separated. Clark, age 18, was single. Alec and Curtis Moore were drowned in the Tallapoosa River the Saturday before, while in seining near Blake's Ferry. A double funeral service was held at Pleasant Hill church, Randolph County, on Sunday morning at 11 o'clock for the Elliott brothers, conducted by Rev. J. A. McWhorter, assisted by Rev. E. L. Brasher. Funeral services and burial for Clarence Clark took place at Rock Spring in Randolph County at 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. J. A. McWhorter officiating. Blair was in charge. All three of the young men who" met with this tragic death resided on or near the Clay-Randolph County line, near Almond and had many friends, probably 2000, who attended their funerals.
