Roanoke Leader October 3, 1934
At Motley, seven miles west of Wadley, three Negroes were killed Sunday and a 
fourth was seriously hurt in a row among a group of Negro boys. Several hundred 
Negroes from far and near were there in a singing convention. Robert Zachary, who 
is seriously hurt, 20, killed Robert Hill, 19, and accidentally killed his own 
cousin, Otis Zachary, 19. Willie Staples 20, was also killed, but it is not known 
by whom since the fracas became more general. Several have been lodged in Wedowee 
jail as a result of the shooting affray.
