Rev. W. J. RAY, of Ashland [Clay County], preached the commencement sermon and Rev. H. M. STEVENSON delivered the literary address. These two discourses were masterpieces of eloquence, and a feast of ennobling, uplifting, inspiring thoughts that will doubtless bear fruit in the lives and character of the young people in this community. This closes probably the best year’s work of this school, and as evidence of the perfect satisfaction of the work of the teachers, the trustees unanimously reelected the same teachers for another year, as follows: Prof.[essor] E. C. ALLEN, principal; Rev. G. O. LANKFORD, first assistant; Miss Sallie Lou COBB, intermediate, and Miss Bessie VEAZEY, primary. Miss COBB has resigned and Miss Vera THOMPSON was elected to fill the vacancy. Miss COBB has returned to her home at Savannah, Ga. We regret to lose this most excellent teacher and christian [sic] worker from our community. The following medals were awarded by the Wadley High School: Declamation, Eldridge GAY, Recitation, Miss Viola MOULTRIE, [R]eady writer, Warner CARPENTER, [S]cholarship, Miss Minnie EDGE. Mr. O. H. STEVENSON was a visitor to our commencement. [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 2 June 1915, p.8]
