An evening of games and other amusements was enjoyed, and delicious coffee, cake and salad were served. Misses Jimmie Mae and Winnie AWBREY proved themselves charming hostesses and the new year was ushered in amid the joyous expressions of many good wishes. [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 6 January 1915, p.4] ---------- Apparently New Year’s Eve was commonly referred to as “Watch Night.”
