Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Mt. Prospect Baptist Church, with Rev. Ray Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Warren is survived by her husband, Johnny Warren of Lineville; one daughter, Mrs. Juanita Warren Womack of Falkville; one son, John Keith Warren of Lineville; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Shirley Bacon of Hogansville, Ga.; and one brother, William Amason of Lineville. Mrs. Warren was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. She was a homemaker. She will lie in state at her residence at Rt. 1, Lineville, until one hour prior to funeral services and will lie in state at the church for one hour. Irene Smedley, 82, of Dover, Del., died Friday, Oct. 28, 1993, at Kent General Hospital in Dover. Services will be Thursday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. from Union Missionary Baptist Church, Dover, with Rev. R. C. Moore, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Rehope Baptist Church Cemetery, Five Points, Ala., on Friday, Nov. 5. Survivors include a son, Guy Smedley of Dallas, Tex.; and three daughters, Mrs. Gloria Carlton of Yonkers, N.Y., Mrs. Shirley Roberts of Fords, N.J., and Mrs. Arnetta Felder of Dover. A visitation service will be held Friday, Nov. 5, at Rehope Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Interment will take place immediately following. A dinner for the family sponsored by the Rehope Baptist Church will be held after the interment. Mrs. Smedley was a native of Roanoke, where she resided until 1937. She was a faithful member of Rehope Baptist Church, Five Points. She was the widow of the late Guy Smedley Sr. After leaving the Roanoke area, she resided in West Virginia, New York, Texas and Delaware. Handling the arrangements are Minus Funeral Home of Dover and Clark Memorial Funeral Service of Roanoke. __________ Eloise Haynes Rice (ANNISTON) Eloise Haynes Rice, daughter of Mrs. Gulema Harrod Haynes and the late Crawford Clift Haynes, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1993, at her home in Anniston after a short illness. Mrs. Rice, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Haynes, was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Randolph County. Valedictorian of her class at Woodland High School in 1950, Mrs. Rice attended Livingston State College and the University of Alabama before graduating from Jacksonville State University. She taught history at Jacksonville High School until her retirement. Active in civic and political activities in Anniston since 1963, Mrs. Rice was a member of Chinabee Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Faith Sunday School Class at Parker Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Haynes of Woodland; her husband of 42 years, Charlie Ford Rice; three sons, Charlie H. Rice, D. Alan Rice and Tracy Rice; and three granddaughters, all of Anniston; three sisters, Linda Haynes McCain of Panama City, Fla., Roberta Haynes Paul of Birmingham and Rosalie Haynes of Washington, Ga.; and a brother, Ralph Crawford Haynes of Alpharetta, Ga. Martha Mitchell, 86, of Bowdon, Ga., died Monday, Nov. 1, 1993, at Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Randolph County Sept. 3, 1907, the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Zettie Odessa Stark Mitchell. She was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of Sardis Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband James Thomas Mitchell in 1970. She is survived by seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. from Rainwater-West Funeral Chapel with Rev. W. M. A lifelong resident of Roanoke, Mr. Lane was born June 29, 1959, son of William Roy and Miriam Norred Lane. He was a member of Antioch Congregational Christian Church and worked as a wood producer. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jean Lane, and a daughter, Miriam Lane, both of Roanoke; a brother, Bill Lane of Treasure Island, Fla.; and a niece and two nephews. Ward, 86, of Pensacola, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1993. Mrs. Ward was a native of Alabama and had been a resident of Pensacola for the past 35 years. She was a member of Ferry Pass United Methodist Church and was named Escambia County’s Homemaker of the Year in 1973. Prior to moving to Pensacola, the Ward family lived for a number of years in Roanoke, Ala., where Mr. Ward was in the insurance business. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, A. I. Ward, and her daughter, Lavonne Band. Wallace Roberts and Rev. E. G. Clark officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Mr. Hamlin died Sunday, Nov. 14, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Chambers County, Mr. Hamlin was born Feb. 9, 1892, son of Richard Jasper and Georgia Anne Sharman Hamlin. He was a member and a deacon of Antioch Congregational Christian Church and owned/operated a dairy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Elmira Katherine Royston Hamlin; a son, Richard Frank Hamlin; and a daughter, Martha Loyette Hamlin. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Marcia Benford and Mrs. Bovine Birdsong, both of Roanoke; two grandsons, Ben Benford and Frank Benford; and two great-grandsons, Jeff Benford and Cary Benford. Roberts, 87, of Rt. 1, Heflin, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1993, in Wedowee Hospital, Wedowee, after an extended illness. Bessie Mae Tucker Brown, 55, of Powhatan, Va., died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1993, at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond, Va. Mrs. Brown was born Feb. 11, 1938, daughter of Wesley Tucker and the late Leona Kirk, and at an early age joined Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, Roanoke, Ala. Moves took her to Marietta, Ga., Roanoke, Va., where she attended high school, New Jersey, where she married, the Virgin Islands, where she was employed with Zenith-Pralex Corporation, and then to Powhatan, where she was a member of Mt. Pero Baptist Church. Needham (ROANOKE) Gippie L. Needham, 87, of Roanoke, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1993, at Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley. Mrs. Needham was born June 3, 1906, in Randolph County. She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church, Wedowee, and was a retired employee of the West Point Pepperell Fairfax Mill. Steven White officiating. Burial will follow in the Lineville City Cemetery. Mr. Heflin died Sunday, Nov. 21, at his residence. He was a native of West Point, Miss., a former resident of Pensacola, Fla., and a Clay County resident since 1976. Mr. Heflin was owner of Lineville Heating & Air, Cheaha Ice and the Econo Grocery in Lineville. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a Baptist by faith. He is survived by his wife, Betty Heflin of Lineville; four daughters, Laura Heflin of Mableton, Ga., and Anna Heflin, Amy Heflin and Sara Heflin of Lineville; one son, Nathan Heflin of Lineville; his father, Emmett Heflin of Lineville; his stepmother, Jewell Heflin of Lineville; and one sister, Sue Stuckey of Pensacola. She was a member of Rock Mills United Methodist Church and had retired from Wehadkee Yarn Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lane Adamson; a daughter and son-in-law, Melba and A. G. Richardson; and a granddaughter, Beverly Lea Hannah.
