Burial was at Cedarwood Cemetery. Mrs. Jackson died Thursday, June 30, at her residence. A Randolph County native and former resident of Rock Mills, Mrs. Jackson was born Feb. 17, 1910, daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Nan Watson Langley. She was a member of Roanoke First Baptist Church and had owned and operated a general merchandise store with her late husband, J. F. Jackson. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Nan Bonner of Roanoke; a son, Frank Jackson of Huntsville; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Meacham of Franklin, Ga., and Mrs. Opal Perry of Wadley; two brothers, George Langley and Gay Langley of Wadley; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and ten nieces and nephews. Simpson (NEWELL) W. H. Simpson, 69, of Route 1, Newell, died Friday, July 1, 1994, at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Simpson was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County and was a member of Valley and Atlanta Orient of Georgia Scottish Rite Mason 32 degree, Heaton Lodge of Graham and Pine Hill Christian Church. He was retired from Sewell Manufacturing Company and was a farmer. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Faye Simpson of Newell; one daughter, Ms. Carolyn Simpson of Newell; one son, Larry Simpson of Newell; one grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Estelle Walker of Talladega and Mrs. Cathleen Wallace of Munford; and four brothers, Clyde Simpson of Forest Park, Ga., Tommie Simpson of Oxford, Bobby Simpson of Birmingham and Ray Simpson of South Carolina. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Hinton, a native of Randolph County, was a member of the Eastern Star of Woodland and Zion Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie M. Hinton. Lindsay, 73, of Fountain City (Knoxville) died Sunday, June 12, 1994, at Park West Medical Center. He grew up in Roanoke, Ala., where his father, Charles C. Lindsay Sr., was associated with W. A. Handley Manufacturing Co. The funeral service was at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Gentry-Griffey Chapel, Dr. Calvin Metcalf and Rev. Ron Mouser officiating. Family and friends met at the funeral home Thursday morning to go in procession to New Gray Cemetery for an 11 o’clock graveside service. Mr. Lindsay retired from TVA in 1982 after 40 years of service. A member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, he was active in his church and in civic and community services, notably while a member of the Fountain City Recreation Committee for many years and through his project work as a 39-year member of the Fountain City Lions Club, of which he was a past president. He served the Lions organization in higher positions of leadership also -- as governor of District 12-N of Lions International in 1972-73, as a founder and several-times president of the East Tennessee Eye Bank, and as president of the Southeast Regional Eye Bank in 1975 and 1977. Survivors include his wife, Ann Bryan Lindsay of Knoxville; one son, Bryan Lindsay of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Heather Marie Lindsay and Bryan Lindsay Jr. of Knoxville; one brother, Col E. K. He was married to the late Melvaline Goodwin Gordon, who passed away four months prior to his death. He had worked for many years for the Nolan Pulpwood Company. She was an employee of Shawmut Mills until 1943. From 1943 until 1966, she worked with the Saxon Vending Machine Co. in Miami, Fla. From 1966 until her retirement, she was employed with Southern Union College. She was a member of Wadley United Methodist Church. Mrs. Whitaker is survived by a niece, Mrs. Marion Edge of Wadley. Smith, 78, of 2303 Falcon Road, Charleston Heights, a retired shipfitter supervisor with the Charleston Naval Shipyard, died Tuesday, July 5, 1994, in a local hospital. The funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday in Cherokee Place United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, was in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Mr. Smith was born in Roanoke, Ala., son of Hall Smith and Winnie Phillips Smith. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Cherokee Place Church. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mr. Beverly was born May 8, 1902, son of Robert E. Lee Beverly and Donie Rainey Beverly. He was a member of White’s Chapel Methodist Church and the Roanoke Masonic Lodge and had retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 40 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Naomi Kirby Beverly. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Betty Beverly Bradshaw of Wetumpka; a son, Robert Medford Beverly of Anniston; two sisters, Miss Bernice Beverly of Rock Stand and Mrs. Ella May Langley of Roanoke; two brothers, Wilson Beverly of Rock Stand and Charlie Beverly of Roanoke; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Nick Allen, 80, of 507 Cherokee Road, LaGrange, died Sunday night, July 17, 1994, at the West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Allen was born in Heard County, Ga., on Sept. 1, 1913, son of Cliff and Ada Miller Allen. He grew up in Standing Rock, Ala., and graduated from Five Points High School. In 1934 he came to LaGrange to work for Hunter-Owen Funeral Home and Furniture Company. He graduated from Gupton-Jones Embalming College in 1937 and has been a licensed embalmer and funeral director since 1938. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Gridiron Club, the Highland Country Club and the LaGrange Lions Club. He was an army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, where he received a Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Sybil Robison Allen of LaGrange; one son, Michael Robison of Houston, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Melissa Ham of Birmingham and Mrs. Cindy Green of LaGrange; three grandchildren, Mitch Green and Melanie Green of LaGrange and Katherine Ham of Birmingham; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bailey Jr. (AUBURN) Funeral services for John C. “Jack” Bailey Jr., 73, of Auburn were at 2 p.m. Friday, July 15, 1994, at Auburn United Methodist Church, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Britt and Dr. Lester Spencer officiated. Mr. Bailey died Tuesday, July 12, at East Alabama Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 24, 1921, in Wadley. He graduated from high school in Wadley and from Auburn University (API) in 1946 with a degree in agricultural engineering. He served in the Air Force from 1942-46. He was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church, was on the board of directors at Central Bank and was chairman of the Auburn Water Board and a member for 38 years. He was an honorary lifetime director of the Alabama Boys and Girls Ranch. In 1993 he received the president’s award from the Auburn Chamber of Commerce. He was chairman of the board for Auburn Federal Savings and Loan. He also served on the Auburn City Council. Mr. Bailey was in the construction business. He was the president of Jack Bailey Construction Company and Bailey - Harris Construction Company and had been president of Twin City Concrete Company since 1971. Survivors include his wife, Madrid Benson Bailey; two daughters, Jan Bailey Flint and Brenda Bailey Rawls; two step-sons, C. Michael Benson and Stephen D. Benson; four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Bailey, William Bailey and Fred Bailey; and six nieces and two nephews. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church, Winnsboro, and was a Mason. He was an electrician for Phillips Petroleum for 20 years, two of which were in the Sahara desert out of Tripoli, Libya, North Africa, and worked 10 years for Bell Helicopter, one of which was in Tehran, Iran, 10 years with Pantex in Amarillo, and four years with Bells Pharmacy in Winnsboro. Mr. Spradlin was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Foster Spradlin in 1951; one brother, Rister Burl Spradlin; and two sisters, Nora Claiborne and Twyla Beard. Heather Brazil, 20, of LaGrange, Ga. died Wednesday, July 20, 1994, in LaGrange as the result of an automobile accident on New Franklin Road. A native of Troup County, Ga., she was an airman in the U.S. Air Force, currently stationed at Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, Japan. Airman Brazil was a 1992 graduate of Troup County High School and lived in LaGrange all her life except the last two years in the Air Force.
