Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Liberty Grove Congregational Methodist Church, with the Revs. Bobby Jones and Earnest Lipham officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Parker is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alondia Kate McManus of Woodland; one son, Larkin G. Parker Jr. of Woodland; grandchildren Ed McManus, Allen McManus, Gail Edmondson, Blair Parker and Benita Parker of Woodland; one brother, Vernon Parker of Woodland; five sisters, Minnie Lee Gross, Clois Lashley and Josie Teal of Woodland and Effie Walls and Winnie Baker of LaGrange, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Parker was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was born March 10,1915, to Joseph Oscar and Viola Wilson Parker. He was owner of Parker’s Garage at Woodland for 20 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Woodland, Woodmen of the World, and Liberty Grove Congregational Methodist Church. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the cemetery fund of Liberty Grove Congregational Methodist Church. Smith, 84, of 1338 Johnston Drive, Anniston, were Thursday[,] Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, Anniston[,] the Rev. Jim Phifer officiating. Burial was in Forestlawn Gardens with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge. Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Regional Medical Center. Survivors include her husband, Hugh Smith of Anniston; a daughter, Peggy S. Truitt of Hillsboro Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Melinda Watson and Sam Truitt, Jr., both of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Stella Rooker of Acworth, Ga., and Morris D. Smith of Opelika; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bill Roland, Sam Truitt Jr., Morris D. Smith, Duane M. Watson, John Green, Ted Waldrep, Daniel Coleman, Penn Rooker and Tom Core. Graveside services for Arnold Guy Hendon, 82, of Pavo, Ga., formerly of Randolph County, were Thursday, Feb. 23, 1995, at 2 p.m. from Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wadley, the Rev. David A. Jones officiating. Mr. Hendon died Monday, Feb. 20, at John D. Archibold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Ga. A Randolph County native and resident of Wadley most of his life, Mr. Hendon was born Dec. 28, 1912, son of Elonzo Guy and Zolena Parker Hendon. He had worked as a welding inspector with Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation. Survivors include two sons, William Stanley Hendon of Pavo and Larry Vickers of Cumming, Ga., and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Quattlebaum Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. __________ Robert Adair Moon (GUN BARREL CITY, Tex.) Robert Adair Moon, 71, of Gun Barrel City died Sunday, Feb. 26, 1995. Mr. Moon was born in Roanoke, Ala., on June 5, 1923. He moved to LaGrange, Ga., in the 1940s, to Cleveland, Oh., in 1953, and to Lake Charles, La., where from 1956 to 1977, he owned and operated with his brothers, Parker F. and Calvin, Moon Brothers Auto Parts. In 1978 Bob moved to Dallas to be near his daughter and family. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and of the VFW, having served aboard a carrier escort during World War II. Survivors include his wife Dorothy; a daughter, Bobbie Jean Campbell, and a grandson, Dustin O. Fisher of Dallas; two step-sons, Curtis Young of Round Rock, Tex., and Dan Young of Woodstock, Conn.; one step-daughter, Kathy Bearden of Walla Walla, Wash.; four sisters, Frances Baaird [sic?] of Moss Bluff, La., Lucille Krieger of Garfield Heights, Oh., Sue Hood of Sulphur, La., and Helen Morman of Pasadena, Tex.; three brothers, Parker F. Mrs. Hurston was a native of Chambers County and grew up around LaFayette. She married the Rev. Willie Hurston in July of 1933 and remained faithfully wed to him for nearly 62 years. One son, George, preceded her in death. She worked for many years in the housekeeping department at Randolph County Hospital. Mrs. Hurston was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Willie Hurston of Roanoke; three sons, Jessie Louis Hurston of Cleveland, Ohio, Willie Hurston of San Antonio, Texas, and Joseph B. Mrs. Collier, daughter of Joseph E. and Lula Pope Baird, was a native of Roanoke and lived in Tuskegee many years before moving to Birmingham. She was the widow of E. B. “Pat” Evans and John B. Collier, both of Tuskegee. She was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church and the Abernethy Sunday School Class. Survivors include her husband, Frank Sims of Atlanta; two brothers, Robert Finch of Detroit, Mich., and Billy Joe Finch of Roanoke; and four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Still and Ms. Freddie Finch Davis of Louisville, Ky., Ms. Maggie Lois Finch of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. Agnes Woolridge of Evanston. Mrs. Sims was born in Roanoke. She worked in the glass manufacturing industry and lived in the Atlanta area for about 22 years. About 18 years ago she was stricken with muscular sclerosis, which resulted in gradually declining health. She later moved to Evanston, Ill. Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by both parents, the late Jack and Cora Bell (Strong) Finch, and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Castleberry and Ms. Dora Finch. Parmer, 79, of LaGrange died Sunday, March 5, 1995, at his home. The funeral service was conducted Tuesday afternoon, March 7, at Hogansville Church of God. The Revs. Elvis Hester Jr., Wayne Hester, Randy Hodge and A. Hansel Parmer officiated. Interment was in Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange. Pallbearers were Johnny Hester, Jack Brazeal Jr., Rodney Turner, Michael Brown, David Parmer and Freddie Parmer. Mr. Parmer was born April 25, 1915, in Randolph County, son of the late Shelley and Myrtie Prestridge Parmer. He had lived in LaGrange most of his life, was a member of Hogansville Church of God, and was a retired timber dealer. Mr. Parmer was an army veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service in Europe during World War II. Mr. Lovvorn was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Lamar Masonic Lodge No. 651 F&AM of Woodland and Harmony Congregational Methodist Church. He was retired from Anniston Army Depot. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lavern Lovvorn of Graham; one son, Doug Lovvorn of Graham; two sisters, Mrs. Freddie Sisson of Knoxville, Tenn., and Mrs. Fannie Lula McCord of Leeds; one brother, Hubert Lovvorn of Graham; and three grandchildren, Paige Lovvorn and Jay Lovvorn of Graham and Stephen Lovvorn of Carrollton, Ga. Yates, 91, of Rt. 3[,] Lineville were Thursday, March 23, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Jerry Colquett, Malcolm Robinson and James Duke officiating. Burial was in the Lineville City Cemetery. Mr. Yates died Tuesday, March 21. He was a native of Randolph County but had lived in Clay County for the last 41 years and was a member of Mt. Prospect Baptist Church (Ophelia). Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Ogle of Lineville; one sister, Mrs. Jewell Heflin of Lineville; three brothers, Chester Yates of Lineville, Claxton Yates of Butner, N.C., and Phillip Yates of Ashland; one granddaughter, Paula Miller of LaGrange, Ga.; one grandson, Randy Ogle of LaGrange, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren. Benjamin Smith, 77, of Riverdale, Ga., will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 30, 1995, at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Wedowee, Ala. Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery. The Revs. Clyde Jones and Chester E. Brown will officiate. The Rev. Mr. Smith, who died Saturday, Mar. 25, at Georgia Baptist Medical Center, was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Birmingham, Ala. A minister of theology, he received his college education at Alabama State College. He served churches in Trafford, Ala., Eutaw, Ala., LaGrange, Ga., Mobile, Ala., West Point, Ga., Gadsden, Ala., and Tuskegee, Ala., and was superintendent of the Montgomery (Ala.) District. The body will lie in state Thursday, March 30, at Union Chapel United Methodist Church one hour prior to service. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Charlise Smith of Birmingham; two sons, Ben Smith and Charlise L. Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Rev. Robert Smith of Wedowee and Rev. Herman L. Smith of Birmingham; one aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Boyd of Birmingham; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eppie D. Smith of Wedowee and Mrs. Eliza Pearl Smith of Birmingham. Vines Funeral Home of LaFayette is directing. __________ James Edward Parker (ATLANTA) Funeral services for James Edward Parker Sr., 52, of Atlanta will be Wednesday, Mar. 29, 1995, at 2 p.m. from Bethel East Baptist Church, with Rev. S. T. Janney officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Mr. Parker died Sunday, Mar. 26, 1995, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. A resident of Atlanta for the past 30 years, Mr. Parker was a Woodland, Alabama native, born April 13, 1942, son of Marvin Dewey and Nettie Jane Keys Parker. He had been employed by Hank Carroll Tile Company. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Wanda Tilley of Forest Park, Ga.; two sons, Donnie Wayne Parker Sr. and James Edward Parker Jr., both of Forest Park; four grandchildren, Donnie Wayne Parker Jr., Jamie Leigh Parker, Jennifer Diane Tilley and Tyler Alonzo Parker; three sisters, Mrs. Alma Morton of Forest Park, Mrs. Annie Jo Glass of Roanoke and Mrs. Frances Lawborne of Mountville, Ga.; one brother, Charlie Will Parker of Heflin; and several nieces and nephews. The family is receiving friends at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour, beginning at one o’clock Wednesday.
