Billy Ray Walker Sr., 61, of Live Oak, Fla., died Monday, July 28, 1997, in Shands Teaching Hospital, Gainesville, Fla., after a short illness.    The Wedowee, Ala., native moved to Live Oak from Lake City 35 years ago, was an auto mechanic, and was of Methodist faith.    Survivors include his wife, Barbara Walker of Live Oak; two daughters, Brenda Fitts of Ansbach, Germany, and Linda Cheshire of Live Oak; two sons, Larry and Billy Ray Walker Jr. of Live Oak; four sisters, Jean Pritchett of Richwood, Texas, Nell Smith of Valley, Ala., Nima Thacker of Keystone Heights, Fla., and Sue Brooks of Ranburne, Ala.; two brothers, Gary and George Walker of Carrollton, Ga.; and six grandchildren.    Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Daniels Memorial Chapel, Live Oak, with the Rev. Elmer Gaskins officiating.  Interment was in Live Oak Cemetery.    Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak was in charge of all arrangements. __________ Warren Wade Harman    (PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga.) Graveside services for Warren Wade Harman, 76, of Pine Mountain, Ga., formerly of Roanoke, were Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at 2 p.m. at White's Chapel Methodist Church cemetery, with the Rev. Don Quick officiating.    Mr. Harman died Tuesday, July 29, at his home.    A Randolph County native, he was born July 6, 1921.  He was a graduate of Handley High School.  He served three years in the U.S. Air Force and was a World War II veteran.  Mr. Harman was preceded in death by a daughter, Cherlynn Dugger.    Survivors include one daughter, Delores H. Green of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Atha H. Kirby of Birmingham and Blanche Armstrong of Ocala, Fla.; and two grandchildren.    Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements. __________ Ellen Ruth Webb    (CARROLLTON, Ga.) Ellen Ruth Webb, 64, of Carrollton died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at Bowdon Area Hospital, Bowdon, Ga., following a lengthy illness.    Mrs. Webb was born in Randolph County, Ala., April 14, 1932, daughter of the late Robert Garfield and Leonia Dye Herren.  She was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of Herren's Grove Baptist Church at Woodland, and a retired employee of Bremen-Bowdon Investment Co.    Survivors include her husband, Charles Ray Webb, Carrollton; two sons, Keith Webb of Bowdon and Kregg Webb of Ranburne; a daughter, Kay Webb of Carrollton; four grandchildren; two brothers, Griffin Herren of Woodland and Cleveland Herren of Carrollton; four sisters, Jane Martin of Fruithurst, Shirley Keaton of Lowell, Ga., Barbara Braswell of Waco, Ga., and Florence Kittle of Temple, Ga.    Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 4 p.m. from Herren's Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Attaway, Waylon Golden and Gerald Batchelor officiating.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers were Chris Ledbetter, Tommy Ledbetter, Ricky Morris, Elbert Eason, Bobby Anderson, Steve Daniel, Randy Kittle and Kevin Morgan.    Rainwater-West Funeral Home, Bowdon, was in charge of arrangements. __________ Geraldine T. Howell    (SMYRNA, Ga.) Geraldine T. Howell, 60, of Smyrna, Ga., died Thursday, July 24, 1997.    Mrs. Howell was born in Roanoke, Ala., on Dec. 10, 1938, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Johnson.  She attended public school in Randolph County.    Survivors include her husband, Isiah Thornton of Smyrna; three sons, Earl, David and Ike Thornton, all of Smyrna; four daughters, Melissa King and Olivia, Tina and Nickie Thornton, all of Smyrna; four sisters, Mary Lee Heard and Prestella Robinson of Marietta, Ga., and Augustine Anderson and Glenda Callaway of Roanoke; three brothers, John W. Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla., Charlie M. Hulen Green, 67, of Mableton, Ga., died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997.    Mr. Green was born in Randolph County, Ala., and moved to Cobb County in 1954.  He served in the Air Force for four years and was retired from Lockheed after 20 years.    Survivors include his wife, Barbara Lovvorn Green; two sons, Gary Green of Austell, Ga., and Martin Green of Hiram, Ga.; one granddaughter; his mother Lucy Green of Woodland, Ala.; four brothers, Hayden Green of West Point, Ga., Vernon Green and Thomas Green Jr. of Woodland and Travis Green of Bowdon, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.    Graveside services were at 2 p.m. CDT at Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery, Newell, Ala., the Rev. Frances Yates Chewning, 90, of Milton died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997.    Mrs. Chewning was born in Rock Mills, Ala., but spent most of her life in nearby Roanoke.  She and her husband Yancey spent their declining years in Milton so they could be near their children and grandchildren.    A Methodist by profession, Frances, or Frankie, as many friends called her, was a faithful and dedicated worker in her beloved Lord's earthly church.  She freely gave of her musical talents through piano, organ and voice.  For 70 years she was involved in all areas of service, including participating in women's activities, directing youth choirs, and teaching Sunday school.    She was preceded in death by a son, W. Y. Chewning Jr.    Survivors include her husband of 70 years, W. Y. Chewning of Milton; two daughters, Sara C. Harman of Milton and Frankie Van Horn of Cantonment, Fla.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Frances Reeves of Pensacola, Fla.    The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida or the Mental Health Association. ______________________________________________________ The Randolph Leader August 13, 1997 ___________________ OBITUARIES: Amers 'Amos' Henry Dalrymple    (WOODLAND) Amers "Amos" Henry Dalrymple, 66, of Woodland died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at his residence after an extended illness.    Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Prospect Methodist Church with the Revs. Ridley Parmer and Glen Brand officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.    Mr. Dalrymple is survived by his wife, Doris Dalrymple of Woodland; one daughter, Linda Poirier of Michigan; three grandchildren, Joyce Krajenke, Karen Van Ashe and George Funtukis; one sister, Jerlene Morris of Bowdon, Ga.; three brothers, Curtis Dalrymple and Lem Dalrymple of Woodland and Elton Dalrymple of Ranburne; two great-grandchildren.    Pallbearers were Junior Brown, Frank Krajenke, Danny Moody, Gary Dalrymple, Bobby Dalrymple, Patrick Duffy and Charlie Ray Edmondson.    Mr. Dalrymple was a native of Randolph County, born on Nov. 26, 1930, son of John Dalrymple and Beulah Hendley Dalrymple.  He was a self-employed produce salesman and was a member of Prospect Methodist Church.    Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee, was in charge of arrangements. __________ Maribeth Hester    (MABANK, Texas) Maribeth "Peggy" Hester of Mabank, who was born March 19, 1924, in Randolph County, Ala., died Aug. 11, 1997, in Corsicana, Texas.  She was a member of Payne Springs United Methodist Church in Payne Springs, Texas. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Sikes and Elliott Sikes.    Mrs. Hester is survived by her husband, Joe A. Hester; three daughters, Catherine Borland, Barbara Peyron and Susan Hester; one brother, Arthur Duke Sikes of Wills Point, Texas; one sister, Clois Barrett of Alexandria, La.; and four grandchildren.    Services will be at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Payne Springs United Methodist Church in Payne Springs.  Interment will be in Restland Memorial Park.    Restland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. __________ Angelo Ferris Dowdle    (ROANOKE) Services in memory of Angelo Ferris Dowdle, 34, were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997, at Mt. Leonard Knight officiating.  Burial was at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.    Mr. Brown died suddenly on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Randolph County Hospital.    A lifelong Randolph County resident, he was born April 8, 1942, son of Berry and Pearl Brown.  He had been employed by Arrington Logging.  He was preceded in death by his parents.    Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Brown of Lebanon, Mo.; one son, Billy Wayne Brown Jr. of Carrollton, Ga.; four sisters, Dela Ruth Durham and Jimmie Lee Richardson, both of Augusta, Ga., Frances Brown of Las Vegas, Nev., and Bobbie Faye Brown of Roanoke; and one brother, George Brown of Franklin, Ga.    Pallbearers were Billy Wayne Brown Jr., Doyle Brown, James McCard, Allen McCard, Edward Brown, Jacky McCard, C. Hurchel Boggus, 75, of Franklin, Ga., died at his residence Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997.    Mr. Boggus was a native of Heard County, Ga., where he lived his past years. He was the son of the late James O. Boggus and Susie Cook Williams Boggus and was the husband of the late Leila Edward Boggus.  He was a decorated World War II army pilot.  After his discharge from service, he was employed by Delta Airlines for 38 years, having retired as a captain pilot.  He was a member of the Delta Golden Wings Club and a member of Dunson Baptist Church in LaGrange, Ga., where he was a Sunday school teacher of the Senior Men's Class and was active in many other community organizations.    Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with Revs. Larry Bell, Andy Hall and Milton Hall officiating.  Music was by the Dunson Baptist Church Music Department.    Pallbearers were Stephen Boggus Sr., Hurchel Boggus Jr., James O. Boggus II, Stephen Boggus Jr., Robert C. Sarah Cameron officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.    Survivors include eight daughters, Dorothy Bowen of Newell, Mable Sue Nunn and Lucy Nunn of Carrollton, Ga., and Evelyn Mays, Ruby Crowder, Vickie Bexley, Phyllis Nunn and Michelle Nunn of Bowdon, Ga.; two sons, Guy Amos Nunn Jr. of Carrollton and Steve Nunn of Newell; two brothers, Oscar Dean "Billy" Nunn of Oxford and Robert Kidd of Buffalo, N.Y.; a half-sister, Annie Ruth Jackson of Hobson City and a special cousin, Mattie Lee Wilson of Wedowee.    He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Lucy Nunn; his wife, Willie Mae Nunn; a brother, John Kidd; and sisters, Alice Boyd, Augustine Turner and Mary Lee Prothro.    Clark Memorial Funeral Service of Roanoke was in charge of arrangements. __________ Fred Henderson Sr.    (LANETT) Fred Henderson Sr., 80, of Lanett died Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997, at Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.    Mr. Henderson was born in Randolph County on May 19, 1917.  He was a member of Plant City United Methodist Church and had retired from Sims Metal Works, where he was a foreman and had worked 48 years.    Survivors include four sons, Ted, Ned, Gary and Mack Henderson, all of Lanett; one brother, Glover Henderson of Lanett; two sisters, Louise Sanders and Minnie Harper of Lanett; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.    Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, the Rev. Moebes officiating.  Burial followed at Randolph Memory Gardens.    Mrs. Phillips died suddenly at her home, Tuesday, Aug 19.    She was born in Cullman on Nov 30, 1912, daughter of Dr. James Cordie and Louise Reinstadler Martin.  Mrs. Phillips attended Hamilton College in Lexington, KY, and graduated from the University of Alabama, where she was a charter member of Sigma Kappa sorority.  She did graduate work at Duke University.  Mrs. Phillips resided in Roanoke since her 1939 marriage to Leon Phillips.  She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke, where she was an active member o WMU, GA director for 14 years, and vacation Bible school principal for many years.  Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Music Club and the Crepe Myrtle Garden Club in Roanoke.    Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Leon Phillips of Roanoke; two daughters, Linda Allen of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ellen Cunningham of Birmingham; four grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Martin Wade of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Evelyn Martin Ellingson of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.    Pallbearers were Rich Phillips, Paul McMurray, Thomas McMurray, Jim McMurray, Drew Phillips, Tommy Cato, William Lane, Hardy Hendon and Wyner Phillips. Tolbin Chapter #720, Order of the Eastern Star, and Antioch Baptist Church, Wedowee.    Vines Funeral Home of LaFayette was in charge of arrangements. __________ John Thomas Crouch    (VESTAVIA) John Thomas "Tommy" Crouch, 87, of Vestavia died Monday, Aug. 11, 1997.    A native of Randolph County, Mr. Crouch was the son of Cora and Ben Crouch of the Big Springs community.  He was retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company as warehouse superintendent and from Nelson Brantley Glass Company.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Birmingham and a member of The Club. He was a veteran of World War II.    Mr. Crouch is survived by his wife, Jean P. Crouch; a stepson, Dow M. Perry Jr. of Decatur; a sister, Eucal Crouch Weddle of Tuscumbia; two grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother, William L. Ergle officiating.  Entombment was in Cedarwood Cemetery.    Dr. Tate died Friday, Aug. 22, at Randolph County Hospital following several months of declining health.    Dr. Tate was born Feb. 18, 1906, in Pine Apple, Ala., son of John and Virginia Tate.  He retired in 1970 as a United Methodist minister in the North Georgia Conference, where he served for 41 years as a pastor and district superintendent.  He served churches in Porterdale, Thomaston, Manchester, Athens, Barnesville, College Park, Marietta, LaGrange, Atlanta, Augusta and Oxford, and for six years he was the district superintendent of the LaGrange District.  He was a member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church, Roanoke Rotary Club, and served as part-time executive director of the Roanoke Area Chamber of Commerce.  He was preceded in death by his wives, Mrs. Nettie S. Tate and Mrs. Johnnye Tate.    Survivors include two sons, John B. Tate Jr. of Oakton, Va., and Sidney S. Tate of Villa Rica, Ga.; one sister, Adele Johnston of Brundidge; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Roanoke First United Methodist Church or to your favorite charity.    Pallbearers were Philip Tate, Paul Tate, John B. Bill Huffman officiating.  Burial was at Pine Grove Cemetery.    Mrs. Caldwell died Friday, Aug. 22, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.    A lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was born Nov. 5, 1918, daughter of Ed and Molly McGill.  She was a homemaker and a member of Almond United Methodist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Voyd Caldwell.    Survivors include two daughters, Mollie Caldwell of Wadley and Joyce Davis of Montgomery; three sons, Ralph and Boyce Caldwell of Wadley and Wayne Caldwell of LaFayette; three sisters, Nonnie Reese, Opal Moncus and Macie Hodges of Wadley; 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.    Pallbearers were Earl Moncus, Eddie Moncus, Crispin Reese, Anthony Reese, Freddie Reese and Wendell Knight.    Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of arrangements. __________ Infant Tristan Allen McGill    (WADLEY) Tristan Allen McGill, age three weeks, of Wadley died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at his residence.  He was born in Valley on July 27.     Funeral services were at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Clay County on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 3 p.m., with burial in the church cemetery.    The Rev. Richie Farrow and the Rev. Rd. 27, Woodland, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at his residence after an extended illness.    Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Bear Creek United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Warren Wilder officiating.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.    Mr. McManus is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Spradlin of Woodland; one step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Daniel of Wedowee; two sons, James R. McManus of Woodland and Carl Jackson McManus of Phenix City; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Benjamin Franklin McManus and Charles B. McManus.    Pallbearers were grandchildren.    Mr. McManus was born in Randolph County on Oct. 1, 1900, son of William Nathan McManus and Mahala Lancaster McManus.  He was a farmer and merchant and was a member of Bear Creek United Methodist Church.    Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee was in charge of arrangements. __________ Ruby Bonner Adams    (DOTHAN) Ruby Bonner Adams, 80, of Baptist Village, Dothan, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at Flowers Hospital.    Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Roanoke with the Rev. Larry Armstrong officiating.    Mrs. Adams was born March 9, 1917, in Roanoke, where she lived the early years of her life.  She resided in LaGrange, Ga., and Roanoke prior to moving to Dothan in 1996.  She was well known for her pressed flower pictures and gave numerous presentations at club meetings.  She was employed with LaGrange Iron Works and LaGrange Country Club as office manager prior to her retirement in 1970.  Mrs. Adams was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke and at the time of her death was a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan.    Survivors include a granddaughter and her husband, Ginny and Steve Scott of Dothan; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Scott of Dothan; a sister, Eunie Carden of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews, including Jimmy Carden of Roanoke.    Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband, Cephas Adams, who died in 1965 and her son, Joe Adams, who died in 1971.    Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke was in charge of local arrangements. __________ Edward Ford "Tobe" Henry    (LANETT) Edward Ford "Tobe" Henry, 73, of Lanett died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997, at Lanier Memorial Hospital.    Survivors include his wife, Ethel Henry of Lanett; three daughters, Brenda E. Yates of Lanett, Donna H. McDowell of North Augusta, S.C., and Angie Duffey of Valley; one son, the Rev. Arnold Henry of LaGrange, Ga.; two sisters, Julia Norred and Ann Baldwin of Roanoke; five brothers, James Henry and Roger Henry of Newnan, Ga., Leroy Henry of West Point, Ga., Billy Henry of Lanett, Whidell Henry of Roanoke, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.    Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, with burial in Fairfax Cemetery.  The Rev. Mike Hawkins officiated.    Mr. Henry was born in Randolph County March 23, 1924, son of Lucy Lee and Jim Henry.  He was a member of Lanier Baptist Church and had retired from West Point Pepperell's Service Center with 19 years of service.  He had been in declining health for the past several years.  The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to Lanier Baptist Church, Plant City Methodist Church, or Chattahoochee Hospice.    Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home of Valley was in charge. ______________________________________________________
