Pleasant Baptist Church with the Revs. J. C. Holloway and David Waldrop officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Holloway died Tuesday, March 28, at Clay County Nursing Home in Ashland following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, he was born Aug. 21, 1913, son of John and Nancy Clifton Holloway. He was employed as a mechanic with the Randolph County bus shop and was a member of Mt. Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Clenton Holloway. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lena Gray Holloway of Wedowee; four daughters, Lucille Vise of Bowdon, Ga., and Lemerle Waldrop, Emma Dee Akins and Emma Lee Spradlin of Wedowee; a son Lem Holloway Jr. of Wedowee; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services for Julia Adams Kell, 76, of Daytona Beach, Fla., were Saturday, March 18, 2000, at 5 p.m. EST at Ritz Carlton Hotel, Atlanta, Ga. Her daughter, Linda D. Kell, offered the eulogy. Mrs. Kell died Monday, Feb. 28, at her daughter's home in Wedowee. A native of Fulton, Mo., Mrs. Kell had resided in Atlanta for more than 20 years and was an employee of Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority up until her retirement in 1986. She was an executive assistant to the AGM of transit operations. After her retirement, she moved to Daytona Beach, where she lived for the past four years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth B. Kell in 1968. While residing in Florida, she was able to enjoy a favorite pastime of playing golf year round. Survivors are her daughter, Linda Kell; granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Rader; a sister, Thelma Adams Foster; and two of her five brothers. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was born Sept. 28, 1916, daughter of Henry and Naomi Wray Bowen. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Lawson. Mr. Haygens died Friday, March 24, at his residence. Mr. Haygens was born Feb. 21, 1948, in Roanoke, son of the late Eddie and Thelma Osborne Haygens. Mr. Haygens was retired from the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was working at AAR Aircraft in Oklahoma City as a chief inspector. Pleasant, S.C. Born March 4, 1933, in Ivanhoe, Va., she was the daughter of Joseph Lawrence Pickett and Hazel Rash. She was a graduate of Norview High School, Norfolk, Va. While attending Mary Washington College, Frederickburg, Va., she met and married her husband of 47 years, Roanoke native Capt. Ben Awbrey Wadsworth, USN. She and Ben traveled the world and raised four children. Mrs. Wadsworth was predeceased by her daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Walke Wadsworth. She is survived by her husband, Ben; three sons, Gregory Pickett Wadsworth of Roxboro, N.C., and Andrew Bonner Wadsworth and Randolph Awbrey Mead Wadsworth, both of Mt. Pleasant; her father Joseph Lawrence Pickett of Ivanhoe, Va.; a sister, Sallie Pickett Moore of Manchester, Conn.; two grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was a 5th-grade teacher with Gadsden City Schools and a member of Wedowee Methodist church. A Roanoke native, Mr. Chappell graduated in 1965 from Randolph County Training School, where he was an active member of the Bulldog Band. Joe moved to California, then to Rochester, where he was employed at A & E Medical Transport, Inc. until illness compelled him to terminate his service several weeks ago. Harvard Weldon McManus, 83, of Bowdon, Ga., died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton. Mr. McManus was born Jan. 27, 1917, son of the late Posey and Nellie Lee Hester McManus. He was a retired preacher and an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Bowdon. Survivors include his wife, Essie Mae Smith McManus of Bowdon; four step-sons, Darrell McManus of Wedowee, Joe McManus and Kenneth McManus of Woodland, and Timmy Treadwell of Ranburne; one daughter, Janie Lee Key of Bowdon; two step-daughters, Carolyn Moore and Yavonne Lowery of Ranburne; three brothers, Joel McManus of Conway, S.C., R. Ms. Willian "Billie" Davis, 82, of Carrollton, Ga., died early Monday morning, April 17, 2000, at Tanner Medical Center. She was born in Randolph County on Sept. 12, 1917, daughter of the late Evin Davis and Emma Josephine Willoughby Davis. She was a retired machine operator at Southwire and a member of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Junior Davis, Bobby Davis and Mildred Stephens. Tex Ergle officiating. Burial was in Cedarwood Cemetery. Dr. Rumbley died suddenly on Saturday, April 22, at Randolph County Hospital. A Monroe County native, Dr. Rumbley was born Oct. 25, 1921, son of Hector McCormic Rumbley Sr. and Addie Rabun Rumbley. He practiced veterinary medicine in Roanoke for 52 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church and Roanoke Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Burdette Rumbley. For more than 21 years he wrote a regular column in The Randolph Leader, "Dr. Podunk Ponders." Survivors include one sister, Sara Rumbley Williams of Monroeville, three nephews and two nieces.
