Don Paris officiating. Burial was in the Wedowee City Cemetery. Mrs. Yates died Saturday, Aug. 3, at Randolph Medical Center in Roanoke. Mrs. Yates was a native of Randolph County, born May 17, 1901, daughter of Benjamin and Francis Smith Prescott. Mrs. Yates was a member of First Baptist Church of Wedowee and had been employed with the Randolph County School System as a lunchroom manager. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Alvin Yates. Survivors include two sons; Rufus B. Yates of Auburn and Robert C. Yates of Wedowee; one sister, Kate Beddingfield of LaGrange, Ga.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dan Yates, Allen Yates, Kenneth Yates, Clay Yates, Cody Yates, Mark Wilson and Tony Pool. Arrangements were by Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee. __________ Jane Carlisle (GULF BREEZE, Fla.) Jane Carlisle, 57, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at her residence. Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze with the Revs. Michael S. Cosgrove and James Benefield officiating. Mrs. Carlisle is survived by her husband of 41 years, Harold Carlisle; her mother, Mattie Brown; her brother, Jack Brown; her son, Scot Carlisle; her daughter, Amy Maxwell; two grandsons; and a host of other relatives and friends. Born Oct. 25, 1944, in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Carlisle had resided in Gulf Breeze since 1965. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze. She was involved in WMU, GA Ministry and was the chairman of the outreach committee. Mrs. Carlisle was retired from Southern Bell after 30 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was the daughter of the late Cleo Brown. Miss Green was a native of Randolph County, born Feb. 13, 1907, daughter of James Canary Green and Rosie Lee Reynolds Green. She had worked at Palm Beach Manufacturing Company and was a member of Midway United Methodist Church. Miss Green was preceded in death by three sisters, Adell Eley, Annie Green and Geneva Waugh; and six brothers, Willie Green, C. P. Green, Herman Green, Thurman Green, James Green and Calvin Green. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Irene Cofield of Wedowee, and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Mark Rasbury, Doug Cofield, Blu Sledge, Pat Waugh, Danny Green and Hershey Green. Henry Edward Pate, 56, of Miami, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, Aug 25, 2002, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Miami. Mr. Pate was a member of Mt. Carrie Missionary Church of Miami. Survivors include one son, William Henry Pate of Miami; four sisters, Laura Mae Ware of Roanoke, Mrs. Thomas "Pet" Adams, Ethel "Jay" Cooper and Mattie "Tis" Kelly, all of Mobile; one brother, Jimmy "Bubble" Pate of Roanoke; a stepdaughter, Tarvis Johnson; a stepson, Vachel Hinnant; three step[-]grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Mrs. Harris was born in Randolph County, Ala., the daughter of the late Cisro and Lola Cosper Winchester. She was a faithful member and usher of Mt. Gillard Baptist Church. Mrs. Harris retired from Perkerson Cleaners and SOS Cleaners after many years of faithful and dedicated service. Survivors include a daughter, Mae Eunice Peterson; a grandson; 12 stepchildren, all of LaGrange; a sister, Mrs. Annie Pearl Slay of Roanoke; a brother, Jessie Winchester of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters-in-law; a devoted caretaker, Lois Thomason; and a number of loving and devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Doll (HUNTSVILLE) Thelma Louise Doll of Huntsville died Thursday, July 25, 2002. She was 93. Mrs. Doll was preceded in death by her husband, Edward N. Services were at Jeff Jones Funeral Home, LaFayette, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, with interment in Wadley Cemetery, Wadley. The Rev. Tom Leverett and the Rev. Joe Mills officiated. Surviving are three step-children, Lucy Butler of Cusseta, Lee Herrington of Lakeland, Fla., and Alton David Herrington of Greenville, S.C.; two nieces and one nephew. Mrs. Herrington was born in Chambers County, Nov. 7, 1921. She was retired from Wheeler Clinic in LaFayette and later worked as social director at LaFayette Extended Care Nursing Home. She was a member of Cusseta Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Moore was born in Langdale April 27, 1911, daughter of the late Maybell and William M. Hawkins. She moved from the Valley area to the Fredonia community in 1948. She was a member of the Stateline Congregational Christian Church and order of the Eastern Star Langdale Chapter #246. She died after a lengthy illness. Survivors include a son, Jessie L. Bailey of Five Points; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Ossie Hawkins and David Hawkins of Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer A. Moore. Mr. Miles, born March 8, 1921, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of the late Walter Thomas and Ellen Hadley Miles. He had lived here most of his life and retired from West Point Pepperell and was a member of Elm City Lodge. Mr. Miles was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed gardening and manicuring his yard. Survivors include his wife, Edna Miles; a son, Bill Miles; two daughters, Colleen Kitchens and Susan Adkins of LaGrange; two sons, Byron Richardson of Birmingham and Bobby Richardson of Ft. Mr. Rogers was born in Heard County, Ga., Aug. 24, 1910, to the late George Frank Rogers and Jessie Word Rogers. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thelma Payton Rogers. Mr. Rogers was in the lumber business and in later years the cattle business. Previously he worked at Heard County Memorial Hospital. He was a faithful member of Ephesus Baptist Church. Tony Morris and the Rev. Jeff Watts officiating. Mr. Norton died Tuesday, Aug. 20, in Wedowee. Mr. Norton was a native of Carroll County, Ga., born Oct. 28, 1965, son of Floyd William Norton and Joyce Lea Norton. Mr. Norton had worked as a carpenter for a number of years and was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Milton and Annie Lea. Mr. Norton is survived by his wife, Cindy Norton of Wadley; a son, Derrick Lee Norton of Carrollton, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Brittany and Paige Hendley of Wadley; a stepson, Dylan Hendley of Wadley; his mother, Joyce Norton of Wedowee; his paternal grandparents, Frank William and Jeanette Norton of Slocomb; a sister Cheryl Wallace of Woodland; two brothers, Lloyd Norton and Chip Norton of LaGrange, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Stanley Yarbrough and the Rev. Bernard Fuller officiating. Burial was at Randolph Memory Gardens. Mr. Stanford died Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Randolph Medical Center. Mr. Stanford is a native of Sulligent and had lived in Roanoke for 49 years. He served in the Army and worked at West Point Pepperell in West Point, Ga., for 38 years. He was a deacon and member of Bethany Lime Congregational Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Rose Bennett Stanford of Roanoke; his stepmother, Ayleen Stanford; one sister, Doris Lockhart; one brother, Harold Stanford; two stepsisters, Mary Lou Hester and Martha Sue Knight; one stepbrother, Travis Carter; all of Sulligent; and several nieces and nephews. Burial followed at Bethel East Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Aug. 21, at his home. A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Smith was born Nov. 11, 1917, son of Josh and Minnie Smith. He retired from Handley Mills and also had worked at Roanoke Stockyards. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Etta Smith, and a son, Eddie Joe Smith. Don Quick officiating. Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Aug. 25, at his home. A Randolph County native, Mr. Johnson was born April 14, 1931, son of James D. and Pearl Bridges Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Whites Chapel Church and a Korean War Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Annie Ruth Heard Johnson; one daughter, Dale Marie Webb of Plano, Texas; one sister, Maureen Williamson of Bowdon, Ga.; and three step-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Jackie Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Stateline Congregational Christian Church Cemetery. Mrs. Thomason is survived by three daughters, Billie Ann Wilkerson of Old State Line Road, Ala., Mary Lucy Brown of Fredonia and Bette June Monroe of Eufaula; four brothers, Preston Maddux of Lanett, Charles Maddux, Rayford Maddux and Percey Maddux, all of Valley; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. Born May 24, 1913, in Double Head, Mrs. Thomas was one of 13 children and had lived most of her life in the Stateline Community near West Point. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Thomason had formerly worked at West Point Pepperell's Shawmut Mill. She was a member of Antioch Congregational Christian Church. Mrs. Thomason was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Harrison Thomas [sic - Thomason] Jr., five sisters, three brothers and two grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Mary Ixa Latta Maddux and Edgar Ray Maddux. The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to the Stateline Congregational Christian Church Cemetery Fund in her memory. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley. Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Revs. Floyd Aikens and J. C. Franklin officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett. Mr. Baldwin is survived by his wife, Kattie Thomas Baldwin; two sons, Lester Baldwin of Pensacola, Fla., and Jerry Baldwin of Phoenix, Ariz.; his daughter, Margie Williams of LaGrange, Ga.; three sisters, Eunice Aikens of the Shiloh community, Leona Smith of Roanoke and Christine Earl of Lanett; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Born Feb. 18, 1919, in Randolph County, Mr. Baldwin had lived in the Valley area most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Navy. He was a retired employee of West Point Pepperell's Shawmut Mill with more than 30 years of service with the company. Mr. Baldwin was a member of Faith Boulevard Church of God. Burial was at Paran Baptist Church. Mr. Arnett died Friday, Aug. 23, at Randolph Medical Center. A Waresville, Ga., native, Mr. Arnett was born March 28, 1902, son of Edmond and Ida Seegar Arnett. Mr. Arnett had lived in the Roanoke area for 17 years. He was a member of Canaan Primitive Baptist Church in Waresville and had worked as a textile weaver at Calloway Mills in Waresville. Mr. Arnett was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Lucas Arnett. Survivors include one daughter, Joan Arnett of Stockbridge, Ga.; one son, Gerson Arnett of Atlanta; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
